Nekochan users around?
Hello!
I just signed up here.
this past weekend I've drove a van for almost 2000 miles (round trip) to pickup my SiliconGraphics collection I had stored in a garage for the past 15 years, and I was wondering whether anyone from the good old Nekochan forums was still around and if might even remember about me! :)

Back then I was going with the alias " sum][one" (https://siliconimage.irixnet.org/index.p...nt/sum-one)  :)

I wonder If anyone from those days remember the "Origin 2000 converted into a Onyxin2000" (thanks to the help of a couple of great codes/users we've managed to add a CadDuo card and Octane "IMPACTSR" graphics to my Origin2000! Oh that was so much fun.

Anyway, I thought I'd say hello and see who's still around!
I had a website hosted on one of my O2 back then, I've brought that back too if you want to check it out.

Cheers for now.

RE: Nekochan users around?
Yeah several of the major users here are ex Nekochan, myself included.

I was known as Raion-Fox at the time, got tired of being called a furry so when I launched this site with Praetor I shortened it. I have been around since late 2013 and basically have been near constant in the community since then. If you don't recall me then well I was the annoying 19-year-old who joined up in 2013 and tried to pump everyone up in the past prime of the old Nekochan.

More or less I would call us the closest thing to a direct successor because no other group was active at the time they went down. I blamed myself for the fall for a while because I had built the site up as a backup and alternative because we have a more liberal software policy than they did, and I did not expect Peter or anybody else to pull the plug however I don't blame myself anymore because I understand it was probably inevitable at some point or another. Peter had a person from Italy harassing him, and that guy has been a serious nuisance on our community since 2015.

I'm happy to say that Dodoid and Dexter1 joined as ex Nekochan users to the staff table. And thankfully I think we left most of the unhelpful people behind. I'm not going to name the guilty but most of them had given up their machines and stuck around to promote apple or Linux or whatever in unrelated discussions and others were just unhelpful and fight causing.

We lost a lot, but I would like to think that we have come out as a stronger community, if more tight knit.

Welcome to the forums, and welcome home I should say. I have already said that I'm not going to pull the plug on this place because of how important it has become in my life.

RE: Nekochan users around?
I use the same name I did on nekochan back in ~2010 (weblacky). I was known for the first failing Tezro 5V line, temporarily resolved by removing my Adaptec Firewire card! Then the 1.8v VRM going low hit me and I turned it off (just getting to these fix now :-). But that was my 15 mins of fame on nekochan back in 2010/2011!

RE: Nekochan users around?
I was on nekochan since March 2007. When Pete unceremoniously pulled the plug I was in the top 20 most posters. I still blame Pete for at the very least not letting the wiki out to the public. Pete, if you're around, you should be ashamed of yourself, that wiki is not your personal property it was a community creation. Thanks to everyone here who has worked so tirelessly to resurrect it from the internet archive and similar locations.

Let's not piss on Peter, I know everyone's pissed but the wiki contents are being slowly rewritten, we have everything on archive.org etc.

Peter had his own demons I'm sure.

I was also on Nekochan with the same name, and was online the second it went down for good! Although lots of invaluable information was lost, I do think that it was for the best, as there seem to be allot less angry disagreements between members nowadays!

RE: Nekochan users around?
Hi Im an ex nekochanner too. Have been visiting the site since my first machine arrived about 2006, an O2 which is still my main dev system today.

Never got tied too much into SGI unrelated matters of the site though, as I see it as a waste of my time. And thats one of the few life variables that cant be decremented. Smile

RE: Nekochan users around?
I joined very late in the game and didn't have too much to contribute to.
At the time, I was fighting the ungrateful AIX game and would never ever ever not by any stretch of imagination have money to get a SGI.
So yes, I mostly participated in AIX-related threads.

I was there as well, same name, since like 2008 when I got re-interested in the horde of a collection I had back in the day. Got rid of it entirely and rebuilding it slowly..with different hardware that I had to mix it up Maybe you have some of the leftovers from back in the day as there are a few apps still needing to be liberated. Welcome to the party.
