Nekochan users around?

RE: Nekochan users around?
I am still around though haven’t played with my SGIs for years.  I was one that reverse engineered the env monitoring in the Fuel back in the day… changed out Dallas chips that did that function and figured out some crypto chips stuff… funny how time goes on. Those were the fun days when I fired up my Origin 2000 with the octane video card hacked in to make that server act as a work station… course computers got more powerful and smaller but still have the love for the good ol SGIs, Amiga and Mac’s

Out of curiosity do you still have any of that information? We lost all the Nekochan stuff and I've never heard of the things you mentioned. Do you happen to have any saved documents or notes from back then? We could always use any information reposted here.

RE: Nekochan users around?
Hi all,

i used to be pretty active on the earlier days of nekochan, too - until around 2008/2009 i guess. I still have very fond memories of that time, the great community and all the work on Nekoware. Nice to see that much of this spirit lives on on this site!

I didn't power on any of my SGIs in almost 15 years - although during all those years i still had the Fuel under my desk and an Indy on the desk (acting as a laptop stand). Last week i finally had the sudden urge to also start taking the remaining machines out of the basement and start inspecting how much is still alive. Let's see where it goes from here..

Cheers

Hi schleusel (and everyone else) - nice to see you here! It also has been awhile since I have powered up my machines. I have a Fuel with a bad power supply, a couple of O2s that ran well the last time I booted it, and several Indys and Challenge S machines. Unfortunately, I haven't kept up with the best ways to revive some of the older hardware, so I'll have to research some questions or start selling off the old machines. For example, I fully expect that none of the Indy/Challenge S machines will have working Dallas chips, so I will need to figure out what people do for that problem in 2024. Cheers!
