RE: Nekochan users around?
There were nekochan members who were inexplicably hostile toward Pete (*cough* EmGee *cough*), but I paid Pete a lot of money to cover his operating costs and I consider him just pulling the plug without a word, and then dangling the carrot of perhaps transitioning the content to one of us but never doing it, and I admit that the PM's were a problem but I would have gladly written the SQL code to remove them all from the database, and Pete knew that. But it's getting to be a long time ago now, and Pete doesn't seem to be around anywhere anymore, so yeah, I guess we just all need to forget it. Like hell I will! (John Wayne quote, humor intended). I know what you mean. I also donated back in the day to help with running costs. I understand Pete not wanting to run it any more if his heart wasn't in it, but to pull the plug with zero notice was not a good thing to do. Still, what's done is done and at least the majority of it has been retrieved and archived from Wayback Machine and the likes.

Yea - I had only started donating by the time he decided to shut down, and I thought... well, could at least have stopped asking for new contributions.

I was so confused and it took me quite a long while to figure out what was going on.

RE: Nekochan users around?
I loved going to Nekochan. Mostly started I think in 2006 was my forum join. I remember when it stopped having new news entry items on the front page.
I kept going to the forums to see posts anyways and eventually got my first O2 in 2009. I remember someone there telling me I was an idiot for buying the O2 for almost $900 at the time. But I didn't care... it came with Softimage 3.9, Maya 4, Power Animator 8.5 and a few other items already installed so I was happy about the purchase.

Quickly the mods showed up and told me to ignore the guy and that him being a troll was a usual occurrence.

When Raion started Irix.cc I joined right off. It was slow for a few months then started really picking up.

When Nekochan died it really picked up here and hence... here we are.

In my estimation, the main sign of a healthy and successful community is the presence and possibility of civil disagreement.
We have it here, as far as I can see. So hats off to Raion and all of us, really.

Welcome to our forum. These days i'm not very active due to parenting/work/renovation amid all that Human Malware thingy, but you can always drop me and others a line to have a chat.
oh Dexter1! yeah, I remember you indeed! howdy!!
So great to see familiar, err.. nicknames! Smile I haven't had the luck to meet many from Nekochan but I remember a few nicknames I was mostly active with, you being definitely one of them. Hope you're well!
Since I was active on Nekochan I've moved to UK, and only a month ago (after 15 years) I've moved all my SGI collection (including mugs, posters, and the amazing Silicongraphics heavy duty bags!! who remember those??) to London. Spent the last weekends cleaning them and powering them off, sorting the boxes and boxes of cables, devices and spare parts. Far from being done with it, that's my Christmas holiday plan Smile

anyone here from UK/London? Would be amazing to hang out for a beer.

I was on Nekochan with the same handle. A long time ago ! Currently dusting off my SGI machines and getting them back online. Real life took its toll on my SGI hobby during the last 10 years, job, family, friends, other hobbies etc. The Nekochan demise didn't help either. Got the whole config a new place and everything powered up fine after a few years hiatus. Just ordered some serial/midi converter card to use the Octane for musical endeavors. I'm back at it !
