Real life took its toll on my SGI hobby during the last 10 years, job, family, friends, other hobbies etc. The Nekochan demise didn't help either. Got the whole config a new place and everything powered up fine after a few years hiatus. Just ordered some serial/midi converter card to use the Octane for musical endeavors. I'm back at it !

I have my SGI back with me out of storage now at a new place and though I have almost everything I need, I can't find the 13w3 adapter and VGA cable I had tied with it to make the Octane connect to the monitor correctly.

I would just buy one off of Ebay but can't remember if there was a specific one that the SGI needed or if any 13w-3 would do.

SGI 13w3 is different from Sun 13w3, yeah. You can find both on eBay, but you have to pay attention.

I was on Nekochan under this username since around 2003 until it went down. I wasn't always super active there though. I haven't powered on any of my SGIs for awhile, but I did recently buy a bunch of O2 parts that I should probably get installed.

My last daily driven SGI was a Fuel, still sitting under the workbench behind me.

RE: Nekochan users around?
As I moved abroad from the UK to Toronto I was wondering whether anyone here is local? Smile Could be nice to meet old, and new, SGI enthusiasts in the area, especially as I'm looking for any retro computing fair/flea market/anything Smile

Just recently I've unpacked my SGI's after the "big move", (or at least the ones I kept since relocating oversea including all my 24 SGI machines wasn't ideal) I've started to finally power them all up and get back into these beauties.

Anyway, if anyone is in the GTA (or close enough in Ontario!) just give me a ping!

Cheers

I'm probably one of the closest members to the Toronto area, but I'm still a couple of hours outside it in a small town. (And I'd prefer not to say too much more on a public website.)

I don't recall seeing anything from anyone closer to or in the GTA since the Nekochan days. There were one or two Torontonians there, but I don't think they made the jump to these forums. I've been waiting to post in hopes that somebody closer would speak up. But since nobody did....

RE: Nekochan users around?
Hi there,

I live in one of south suburb of GTA. As Jpstewart stated, there ware more. One gentlemen from Toronto sold the whole collection at once and I got from him an Indy, and another one, again south of Toronto, sold me his Octane and kept at least an Onyx2, if I remember well.
Anyway it will be fun to get together for some beers...

Welcome in the neighborhood.

RE: Nekochan users around?
I was on Nekochan a little earlier and not much after 2007, which was around the time I stopped using IRIX for daily duties.  I was and am still into overclocking.  My claim to fame was figuring out the serial eeprom boot strings for overclocking R4K on Indy, Indigo and Indigo2.
I like to overclock competitively now on hwbot.  Alas, its using Windows and x86 but if you check my profile you will see I didn't forget my roots. Smile

I had a bit of a false start getting back into SGI, just before human malware, but I'm giving it another go now!

RE: Nekochan users around?
I learned about SGI and IRIX in late 2013 and lurked Nekochan around that time until it went offline. Forgot my username there though.

Never owned a machine or used IRIX (too poor) so I experience this hobby vicariously through reading community posts, reading manuals, watching videos, looking at screenshots, etc.
