RE: Got a Tezro
Well, aside from the lack of a hard drive, a janky CDROM, and only 4 gigs of RAM, I think I can safely say I got pretty lucky with this unit pricewise since it was a "blind" buy, it's well specced out...

RE: Got a Tezro
Congrats. So, is it the environmental monitoring that's out, or is one of the fans not running? NB: IRIX 6.5.5 is not going to cut it for that system. I don't know off-hand when the Tezro was introduced but it's going to need ~ 6.5.18+.

Random thoughts .... (1) people actually ship a 30kg system in a box with some paper padding? Wow :@ and (2) you don't have carpet on the floor but bought a Tezro? Now that's dedication Biggrin

It's just one of the fans, fan 2 according to the little L1 monitor screen. Now I have to figure out which fan that is haha.

Funny enough, I just read that I would need a higher version of IRIX for this beast right before I saw your post. :-)
Anybody know where to get a copy of 6.5.18+? I could probably do a network install from my 02 if need be. I'd also be down for buying a new drive that had it pre-installed, as all I've got right now to play with is a 9gig drive which isn't going to cut it ultimately.

Actually I felt the shipper packed it fairly well; it wasn't just paper but in fact molded styrofoam all around, and it survived the trip without any big problems.

PS: I live in a 1940's mid-century modern home in Los Angeles and chose polished concrete floors for the whole house when we moved in 15 years ago. They're great, especially if you have pets and/or kids :-)

RE: Got a Tezro
Just checked, the Tezro was introduced in July 2003, and requires at least IRIX 6.5.21 (Aug 2003). I would just install IRIX 6.5.30 on it, you can find the images on FTP here, or on archive.org. You'll still need the foundation discs from your existing IRIX 6.5.5 box, but not the 6.5.5 overlay discs.

Try my fork of Irixboot:

https://github.com/unxmaal/irixboot/tree/irisware1

I hacked it up to pull media from ftp.irisware.net, instead of requiring you to manually download CD images yourself.

When you git clone it, be sure to checkout the irisware1 branch before running 'vagrant up'.
