Got a Tezro - BackPlaner - 10-13-2018

After years of dicking around I finally bit the bullet and bought that cheaper one without a hard drive on eBay. Kind of a roll of the dice but we'll see when it gets here in about 10 days. Hopefully beyond the missing hard drive there won't be too much it needs.
(fingers crossed)

Congrats on the purchase. Hope it gets to you safely and in good shape.

Thanks guys! Trying to temper my excitement a bit, at least until it gets here, being super Zen in my waiting and expectations 😁👍

Just Seattle to L.A., not too far right? What's the worst that could happen... right??

Hmm, on second thought, maybe you should tell me all your worst past shipping nightmares, so I can then comfortably sit back and reckon, "Ah, I'm sure nothing like THAT would happen to me this time round....right?" 😅

My Indigo2 travelled all over Europe inside an oversized cardboard box packed with newspaper clippings. No padding whatsoever, it was as bad as you can imagine. Surprisingly, this particular seller seems to be very active and keeps regular listings of SGI gear. He should know better...

Not long ago, I procured a Sun Ultra 1 also from abroad. This guy did not even put the computer inside a cardboard box, it was simply bubblewrapped with lots of "Fragile" stickers placed for good measure. Unsurprisingly, they did not do a good job at protecting the unit. I think more stickers would have been necessary. I keep pics of the carnage on this one but I seem to have lost those of the Indigo2's unboxing.

I am rooting for you, though, pics when it arrives! Smile

Will do!

PS: definitely needed more stickers

Congrats on the tezro. I kept seeing the unit you bought on eBay and was tempted due the price. The only other one currently on eBay is over $7k. Once machine. Parts and hard drives are easy to get.

The only bad experience I had recently was purchasing an Octane from an eBay seller that doesn’t understand how to properly pack these machines. Overall, the did a good job wrapping the unit with many layers of bubble wrap and foam, but the octanes weakness is the rear plane fasteners for the XIO boards and power supply handle. Mine were Brocken off making extracting the xio boards challenging. Fortunate non of the plastic casing was damaged.

These machines are built like tanks, and is why they weight so much. I would expect the Tezro would be no different - it’s the O2s that are probably the most fragile.

RE: Got a Tezro - BackPlaner - 10-15-2018

Yes I was always surprised at just how heavy my old octane was, the crossbar and the density of it all certainly contributed to the weight. However, at 65lb I think the Tezro's got it beat by at least ten pounds :-)

PS: just got the tracking from the shipper and apparently it's going to be here by Wednesday! Can't wait...
