Got a Tezro

RE: Got a Tezro
Well I just want to say thanks you guys! I got some of that lube and fixed the fan and now it's great with no more L1 errors.

Unfortunately, now that I had everything ready to finally install irix, I'm having another problem. Hoping someone can help me out with it.

Whenever I boot up the tezro, on the L1 it's giving me no errors and says that it's booting ti the PRom successfully but I am getting no video at all. I even went and got a new DVI cable to see if maybe it was the cable and I tested it with two monitors but no dice. I really cannot figure this out, the only clue I might be able to give is that I noticed a red LED on the interface board ( the one that the graphics card plugs into).

It's green if the machine is powered down and has a power cable in, but as soon as I push the power button it turns red. I can't remember if it was always like that when I was able to post to the PRom a couple of days ago but I'm including a picture below just for reference. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them, it's so frustrating to be so close to finally installing irix and then suddenly have this happen!

The only other thing I can think of is that I was messing around with the setenv commands trying to get it to boot previously, and maybe I inadvertently changed something so that it thinks it's headless now? Is there a way I can remote login to it from the 02 to see or reset the setenv?

RE: Got a Tezro
Have you tried to 'resetenv' from a console? I have no clue how the Tezro handles peripherals but is there any chance the video card might be disabled? It might be worth to run 'enableall' from console.

Incidentally, I went through something similar on a Sun Ultra, no video output all of a sudden. Clearing PROM params using Stop+N did the trick.

RE: Got a Tezro
strange indeed. I would think if you unplugged your keyboard/mouse and just consoled in you should be able to get to the console via serial cable?

To be honest with you, you should really console in and boot up and make sure there are no strange errors during POST, make sure nothing is getting disabled, etc

Then from console get into the PROM and look at those settings, maybe even a resetenv for good measure

I missed the last part of the post. Depending on your IRIX installation at the O2 you should be able to serial in from there using cu or screen. I normally use an old PC or a Sun computer using tip so I am not sure of what challenges you may run into. The console port at the Tezro side seems to be a DB-9 type (same as with the O2) so a simple null modem cable DB-9 to DB-9 should do the job?

Thanks. I don't have access to a null cable, is it possible to telnet/ssh over ethernet from either Irix or pc to use console and run enableall?

Frankly, no idea but I doubt it. There is some more info here:

http://forums.irix.cc/thread-137.html

But it all seems to be controlled through the console port. I would really encourage you to source a null modem cable when you have a chance, terribly useful to address this type of issues.

IKR? I just tore my studio apart trying to find it, I could have sworn I had one but can't find it anywhere. I might have to make an emergency trip to Frys if I can't get this going via any other methods❤️

no, your going to need a serial cable/null modem, no way around that as far as I know

RE: Got a Tezro
I have been kicked out and had to fall back to console more times than I can count, most of the times due to mistakes of my own, but anyways. Love the Sun machines, they have a bunch of extra keys on the keyboard, pressing the STOP key together with a series of keys allows you to do quite a few nice things such as clearing NVRAM parameters during boot. Saved my ass a few times already. I also got a couple of "non working" Ultras which were simply brought back to life by clearing parameters that way. But I digress...

Keep us updated!
