Current Anime

RE: Current Anime
Been catching up on Demi-chan wa Kataritai/Interviews with Monster Girls recently since it was announced that the anime's getting a second season. We're now officially at the point where a comic is closer to having a coherent Grand Unified Field Theory than actual real-world physics, and I'm not sure how to feel about that.

RE: Current Anime
Well, it's been a hell of a year for pleasant surprises on the anime front. On top of Demi-chan getting surprise-renewed after three years, Machikado Mazoku did in fact get renewed for a second season, which I'm totally stoked about. Add to that the fact that Tonikaku Cawaii (a series with a fairly bog-standard romcom premise, but which makes up for it in its quirky, delightfully low-key tongue-in-cheeky tone) just started airing and I didn't even know it was getting a series...!? Man, I wish the rest of 2020 was going half this good.

Anyway, we started watching Moriarty the Patriot, which also just started airing recently. Funny - in the broad synopsis, the series should be way outside my wheelhouse in pretty much every respect, but two episodes in and I'm rather digging it. I think the key is that most "the bad guy is really the hero!" stories tend to grind my gears because they inevitably twist themselves into pretzels trying to make the villain-protagonist a Tortured Soul whom Fate Has Left No Choice or some such emo bullshit. This series (so far, anyway) isn't doing that - show-Moriarty knows and accepts exactly what he's doing, can explain clearly why he's doing it, and is doing it with a smile - and damn if it isn't engaging to watch.

So much great stuff coming up in season 2, too. Can't wait for that.

Another good one that I just remembered: Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle, which is sort of a kinder, gentler version of "The Ransom of Red Chief." Funny as hell.

MX TV @Japan, night time has lots of anime. I have not time to watch, but design processors. Anyway, Sony’s Torne was most popular gadget to streaming on internet...

Finished watching Ergo Proxy last week. What a trip, and I already miss it so will likely watch it again soon. Might even be better the 2nd time around now that I know what the hell was going on. Re-L looks exactly like my daughter, including her wicked resting bitch face.

Next up is Serial Experiments Lain which just arrived at my doorstep last night, covered in snow  Raisedeyebrow...why can't Amazon delivery people put small packages in the mailbox? If I can find them, I also hope to get Yoshitoshi ABe's other two - Haibane Renmei and Texhnolyze.

RE: Current Anime
Tons of stuff started up this season. Otherside Picnic hit the air - I've been following the scanlation of the manga for a couple years now. The tone is a bit odd, with light-hearted sitcommey character interactions sprinkled into freaky ghost-story/cosmic-horror stuff (the original still has the lighter side, but it stands out less,) but I'm digging it.

So What If I'm A Spider? also finally started airing, ages after it was first announced. I was a little skeptical about how they'd make it work when the principal storyline is essentially a long string of boss-battles with only one speaking role, but they're handling it well - not a fan of the use of cel-shading for everything on the "dungeon" side of the story, but the way they're leaning into the protagonist's habit of entertaining herself with internal monologue is pretty amusing - hats off to the VA.

And Non Non Biyori finally got a third season - I was a bit worried that the movie they released a couple years back was the last we were going to get, but fortunately not.

RE: Current Anime
Hi,

"Sprigan" at Netflix is released.

The anime is originated from Manga in 80s, weekly "Sunday magazine".
I think that people like an action anime, seems also like it.
