Current Anime -

It's no secret I love anime.
Let's talk about currently airing anime you're watching.
As of Summer 2019, I'm watching Shield Hero and Helpful Fox Senko-san.

Frickin'
everything is getting a series this year, apparently. Shield Hero is on my to-do list and I'm a few episodes into Senko-san; I'm still waiting on airdates for
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!,
Are You Lost?,
So What if I'm a Spider?, and
Mao-Sama, Retry! on top of that, and
For My Daughter, I Might Even Be Able to Defeat the Demon King and
How Clumsy You Are, Miss Ueno are apparently already out there. There's probably others I'm forgetting as well. Still need to see if someone's subbed the
Non Non Biyori movie, too.
Man, and I thought getting a solid adaptation of
Hakumei & Mikochi last year was a good deal...!
(Now if we could just get an adaptation of
Number Girl...that would be the best thing.)

My kid and I are loving One Punch Man s2
But now that the anime has caught up to the manga we have no way of knowing what's coming next! :-)

Just make sure you have extremely robust anti-malware installed :-)
(not kidding, I recommend Malwarebytes, the absolute best)

Sweet, going to have to check it out on a locked down box.

Recently been watching the odd bit of FLCL, just love it! Am considering Cowboy Bebop again as my wife likes it a well.

Just discovered a couple weeks back that
Tonari no Kyuketsuki-san got a 12-episode series last year; it's awesome, like a vampire-themed
Lucky Star. Highly recommended.
Edit: also, just discovered that
Itai no wa Iya nano de Bogyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu is getting a series. Can't wait for that one.
Anyway, not current by a long shot (though, as it turns out, Viz just started a reprint of the manga,) but I've been dipping back into
Urusei Yatsura; I've been a fan of Rumiko Takahashi's work ever since I started getting into this stuff (
Ranma 1/2 was the first manga I ever read,) and it's funny both how different it is from her later material (so much more random, disconnected wackiness!) and at the same time how many hallmarks of her style were already present in her first full series (I swear like every major
Ranma character has a prototype in UY.) And her art is glorious from the get-go; I'd kill to have her confident linework.
It's also funny just how much it reads like some kind of demented PG-13 Japanese parody of
Archie; not Harvey Kurtzman's dark satirical take, but a gleefully zany dialing-up of the existing aspects to an extreme (just why
were those characters always conniving and back-stabbing their supposed friends, anyway?) under the
Fawlty Towers principle that
anything is funny as long as it happens to a sufficiently terrible person.
It's just a shame that the anime isn't better than it is; it's still worth watching, but between the softening of Takahashi's distinctive character designs into a blobbier, simpler look that almost looks more like vintage
Funky Winkerbean than anything and the odd decision to cut down the original's fairly sprawling chapters into half-episode short segments for almost the entire first season, it's nowhere near the much more solid adaptation that
Ranma 1/2 got. Ah well; I suppose everything has to start somewhere...

That one just rolls of the tongue!
I found some old CD-R's with anime on in my drawer the other day, will be digging into Sakura Wars OAV and Serial Experiments Lain for a bit.
Also found my old Sci-Fi channel rips of Patlabor 1 and 2, Patlabor 2 has some very good mecha animation!

Aw yeah,
Lain is the goods - in addition to being a prime slice of late-'90s computer kitsch. Check out
NieA 7 by the same team, as well - it's a lighter series they did as a breather afterward, quite good.
Started watching through
The Vision of Escaflowne recently, that's been good stuff. And on the "friggin'
everything is getting a series this year" topic,
Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? and
Machikado Mazoku are currently running, and both are pretty damn brilliant (especially
Machikado.) Highly recommended.
Dr. Stone is also pretty good.
