I Fired up one of my SGI's today!

RE: I Fired up one of my SGI's today!
Very cool! Thanks Thanks for sharing! I remember the Watt Puppy V’s. My local hi-fi shop had a pair in the 1998 era!

My first pair of decent speakers was a pair of Sonus Faber Amati Homage's, which I ran with a pair of Krell FPB 250M’s. The Amatis were the Watt Puppy V's direct competition from the Italian side of the world at that time. Also a great pair of speakers!

The Watt Puppy V and the Amati Homage both featured the same ScanSpeak midrange unit, which each of the two companies modified in their own way!

The ones in the Amatis where fitted with titanium phase plugs and the ones in the Watt monitors had inverted dust caps, but they were essentially the same driver featuring ScanSpeaks “pulp carbonium”cone.

The Watt Puppy V and the Amati also shared the same type of binding posts from WBT. (For better or worse, as they were difficult to tighten around spade lugs due to their highly polished finish!)

Greetings from South Africa,

Nick

Jim Clark owns Wilson Audio X-2 Alexandrias and David Wilson's daughter did confirm, that Steve Jobs first had Watt/Puppies, then X-1 Grand SLAMMs and later X-2 Alexandrias.

Cool! 😎

Whenever I think of Wilson Audio, it’s always the X-1 Grand SLAMM that comes to mind! (It was the first Wilson Audio product that really caught my eye!)

Most of Dave Wilson's modern products are an evolution of the Grand SLAMM! The new WAMM Master Chronosonic is also more akin to (or an evolution of) the X-1 than the original WAMM!

I would like to ask a SGI related question. Since you have much more in depth knowledge than I, do you know, if SGI doubled the amount of geometry engines in VPro V12 vs VPro V8 to achieve the higher geometry performance?

Listening to Natalie Merchant's "Live in Concert" today,

The V10 and V12 have double the geometry performance of the V6 and V8, but I'm not sure exactly how they achieved the performance difference, as these graphics systems don't feature discrete geometry engines such as those found in the MARDIGRAS graphics systems.

Dear Irinikus,

Thank you for the information.

I have just re-read your earlier posts. Were the Krell amps a Dan D'Agostino design?

I was a huge Mark Levinson fan.

I agree that the original WAMM was very different. I think it was the only Wilson speaker using electrostatics.

They were indeed a Dan D' Agostino design, Krell has dwindled into insignificance since he left!!!

That's what happens when you let "profit above all else" shareholders into your company!!!

I think he's doing much better nowadays anyway!!!
