I had similar issues, I can now get to the login screen but the keyboard and mouse are not registering. Have tried them on an Indigo and they both work. The light is illuminated on the keyboard.. Thoughts?

According to the Onyx2 owner's guide, lack of keyboard/mouse response is likely due to a damaged system file.

Changed it to:

So, just wondering, but it should not matter if you have a serial connection connected when you boot it up right? Just thinking that when I have had to connect one to get the machine going, perhaps is just defaults to a serial terminal connection.. Tried it without and still had to connect to a terminal to enter in 1) to start up system.

I did setup 6.5.30 from the serial connection, as I didn't have a compatible SOG monitor, but do now..

Onyx always defaults to serial console. You need to 'setenv console g'.

I did that, there is also setenv console G, but however, the console does not show up on my screen, only via the terminal. I did again a resetenv and reset... No changes.

It only shows PROM... I still need to go into a terminal and hit 1.. Still getting no mouse or keyboard working at the login screen. The keyboard flashes, so it is found, however, input is not accepted / registered in the login window.

You should be able to correct the keyboard and mouse issue at login by renaming or deleting your ioconfig file, followed by a reboot.
