Hi All,
I got time to work on this today. Now this is unverified, as I don’t have the V-4-IMPACT card installed in a station at the moment. This pin out is based on one from both Ian @ SGI Depot and from an old pinout post found via archive.org.
I’ve gone ahead and made a NEW diagram that I feel is easier to read. I used very visual concepts to make it easier to follow pin position (on the connector) with break out port position. This was helped by the fact that the DB26 connector is asymmetric, so I produced BOTH mirrored sides, so no matter how you look at this, you’ll be right :-).
Now I tried to solder this connector manually but had trouble with the cables I used. it seemed easier to buy a pre-made DB26 cable due to the need for a special shielded cable with enough conductors. I’ve tried a few things but, in the end, it was easier to buy a straight DB26 cable off Amazon (they are still sold), and cut it in half and use both halves.
Be aware…I made a mistake and bought a 2.5’ cable…but half a 2.5’ cable that’s been stripped…isn’t much cable. So my little junior boxes are very short (just like the SGI original). So if you’re going to follow in my footsteps…buy a LONGER cable, maybe.

This cable was tough to strip, it I used a knife-tip on my soldering iron to gently melt around the insulation. Don’t worry, there is a foil shield in this cable. As long as you don’t leave it too long…it won’t affect the wires inside. So you just go around the cable to remove the insulation with a hot knife, when you start seeing the underlying foil, stop and clean off the knife and put it away. Then you get pull and it comes apart just fine.

I used a Pinnacle BlueBox as my base. I bought replacement yellow RCA jacks (had to buy a PACK of these…so if anyone wants one, let me know). I removed the top white and red RCA jacks, and replace one of them with an additional yellow RCA because the original VBOVB has two yellow RCA video input jacks but only one video output. I didn’t put a plastic blank on the hole…just left it.
I left one set of audio RCA jacks because the original VBOB has no audio, I figured I could come back at the later date and installed simple stereo jack on the back of the unit to plug in INPUT audio as well as just route that to a stereo 3.5mm jack tot back of the Indigo2 Line-IN. So it would seem like a normal 3-RCA jack Input for like VCRs or whatever.
Right now that’s not hooked up. I’d need to get the jack and drill the back of the box to install that functionality.
Here is result, with all this, except the buying of a full pack of the RCA jacks, I got each BlueBox for like $6 on eBay! Now the original BlueBox HAS a DB26 connector…bad news is it’s missing needed wires. It has all the connector pins…but not ALL the wires and it’s missing too many. So you cannot just rewire the original connector (which I had hoped to do). But this works just as well.
So there you go, good luck!
FYI, The replacement yellow RCA jack is digikey part# CP-1427-ND, the yellow is a slightly different shade, but an exact body part match.
