IRIX 5.3 for Indigo2 R4400 250MHz non-IMPACT
OK. I'm trying to set up an IRIX 5.3 install (for reasons) on my I2 with an R4400/250 and XZ graphics. According to sgistuff.net (and based on the fact that I get a kernel panic when I try), the base version of IRIX 5.3 from November/1994 does not support this CPU. The other versions of IRIX 5.3 that I can find are either Indy-specific (which I own) or only support IMPACT systems. In fact, from the list I'm not sure if there even IS an IRIX 5.3 release that supports this set of hardware. Is there?

You need a version that supports the 2MB cache of the R4400.

"IRIX 5.3 with 175MHz and 2MB cache support"
for all R4k Indigo2 with Newport or Express graphics.

"IRIX 5.3 XFS"
should also run on just about everything except for Indigo2 Impact and maybe Indy R5000 and some old R3000 boxes.

There also was a version for Indigo2 Impact that supported the 2MB cache CPU, but I think it only supported Impact graphics.

I recommend the XFS version, because filesystems larger than 4GB are great.

Ah, thank you. The question is then, does anybody have a copy of either of those releases?

I only have the stuff on usftp.irixnet.org. I don't have any other releases.

I'm the system admin of this site. Private security technician, licensed locksmith, hack of a c developer and vintage computer enthusiast.

https://contrib.irixnet.org/raion/ -- contributions and pieces that I'm working on currently.

Technical problems should be sent my way.

I have 5.3 with xfs support. If I throw this CD into a Mac/PC and rip an ISO of it, it should be able to be burned and then read from an SGI system. Raion, are we uploading stuff like that FTP or should it go to archive.org? I also have Demos for IRIX 5.3 All Indigo2 IMPACT, Impressario 1.2, Desktop Special Edition 1.1, IRIS Development Option 5.3, GIO Fast Ethernet, and two 5.3 patch disks from 1998. I think there is a Y2k download around here somewhere too.

Personally I already have that, though I can't remember where I got it from.

What about the Freeware disc for 5.3?

Looks like there is an Indigo2 all impact disc on archive.org. Not sure if it has XFS support. It is from 1995 so it might have it.

The freeware disc I do not have.

sgistuff.net specifically states that the release with that product number doesn't support non-IMPACT graphics, though I did not burn out a disc and test it.
