The new PS5!!!
So, they've finally given us a preview of the next generation PS hardware, and I think it looks awesome!!! (And will be getting one as soon as humanly possible!)

RE: The new PS5!!!
I'm really looking forward to it! The system has a nice design, although the "wifi router" comments aren't completely unfounded. Biggrin For as many great games as the system will have, I'm going to have to pick one up just for the Demon's Souls remake. I'm a huge fan of From Software's games, especially the "Soulsbourneiro" games, but Armored Core is also a favorite series of mine.

I really think that the pictures aren't doing it justice, I think it will look far better in the flesh.

I like the dissymmetry of the model with the Blu-ray drive, so that's the one I'll get! (Call me old fashioned, but I like to buy physical media for my consoles!)

I have a Nintendo Switch. Gamecards are much better to have than downloaded games, they have their own storage. It's crazy how much space some of the games need - a 64GB SD card doesn't go very far.

RE: The new PS5!!!
I've actually been procrastinating for 12 years on buying any new TVs before I move (I'll have to move someday...sigh...). All my TVs were made before 1997, so no HD or LCD for that matter (all CRTs). I have a couple large, modern, computer monitors that have HDMI but I also suffer from intense VR sickness in most modern games (third person and first-person), old side-scrollers don't appear to be big problem. Last modern game I was able to play for nearly 3 hours was the original counter strike in 2003 (not half-life, vomited in 12 minutes). But counter-strike CS physics were always much more subtle and real to me and kept a constant horizon during movement. Most modern games don't and apparently that's my issue.

I've occasionally retested myself with youtube game play videos. I actually liked the PS4 for it's media qualities. I haven't owned one but it had a great combo of Blu-Ray and media player (DNLA+USB) playback plus a remote. Though I didn't think it supported SRT files or the like for soft-subs. If it can't do soft-subs then I won't buy it :-) Seems like some DNLA servers could transcode videos and render soft-subs as hard subs (that would fix it). But I never saw a PS5 capable web-interface for the DLNA servers that allowed those kind of real-time choices to select in videos under transcode.

I basically want VLC plus remote volumes in an HDTV, that would be great for me (instead of a full-featured HTPC with OS updates and all that junk).

Sigh...well we each have our burdens, so life goes on.

All modern TVs are LCD panels with LED backlights.  They're much lighter than CRTs.  My 32-inch Roku TV weighs a fraction of what my 20-inch CRT-based TV weighed (that thing was 60lbs).

The term for getting motion sickness in games but not IRL is "simulation sickness".

Look into getting a Smart TV.  There's Roku (what I have), and Muse.  Those are the 2 major platforms.  Alternatively, a raspi3 or raspi4 might also work for ya.

RE: The new PS5!!!
I still hope that they release an all-black or an inverted colorscheme option. White just doesn't work for some setups. Plus some of the renders people have made of a black ps5 look really good.

That being said, even if they don't, dbrand seems to already have skins for both versions of the ps5 available, and other companies probably won't be far behind.

I'm going to break with the crowd and say that I like white consoles. I have a white PlayStation 2, most Dreamcast are white, and the super Nintendo was originally white though it was beige in Japan.

RE: The new PS5!!!
After watching the official PS5 teardown presented by SONY, I now want one of these machines more than ever! (This machine's a work of art, both inside and out!!!)

When I look at hardware, the internal design interests me far more than what you see on the outside, and this machines design is a flawless execution by SONY in my opinion!

I can't wait to have one of these little monsters in my collection!!! Smile
