Today I sampled the best ale I've ever had, and would seriously recommend it to anybody who values such things:

Ooh, nice. We're almost out of beer at the moment, but there's one last bottle of a special barrel-aged version of Ballast Point's "Victory at Sea" porter, which is magnificent. This week, though, I've been hitting up Knob Creek's 100-proof bourbon, which makes godly Manhattans.

Heh, I like plenty of drinks! I enjoy a light ale or IPA (chilled, yes - CAMRA folk will grumble at me), I love a nice German Dunkel or Weissbier (wheat beer), I love my wine (so long as it is dry - can't stand sweet wine), living in Scotland I love Whisky (including good bourbon at times), and I'm also a fan of German Kräuterlikör (German schnapps made with various herbs).

Yes, I probably drink a bit too much, but hey! Life is to be lived

Not had that one I think, but 'barrel aged' beers are a thing these days. I get them from time to time, I have a local liquor store which has a good selection. A local brewery (De Molen) has some pretty good ones, but they're limited batches. Last summer they had one which was aged in whiskey barrels which blew me away. I had one aged in Bourbon barrels the other day but it couldn't match that one.

The standard La Trappe Quadrupel's also absolutely fantastic!

I'll keep a look out for De Molen, to see if I cant obtain some locally.

I can't believe I'm saying it, but this stuff equals or betters a good cup of coffee in terms of taste. (Even though they're completely different beverages.)
I've always been a whisky and wine drinker and haven't given beer much thought, but I'm loving this stuff!

Ballast Point's "Victory at Sea" porter

Hey, I know this brewery! I prefer Sculpin, though. I know it is more readily available, but as a german, I prefer it's more natural flavors.

Sculpin's not bad, but I'm a little IPA-ed out on account of living on the U.S.'s west coast, where the tap list at any given brewery, restaurant, or brewpub is 60-70% pale ales, India pale ales, double India pale ales, triple India pale ales, modified 360 kick-flip to India pale ales, etc. and 30-40% anything else.

Anyway, I'm currently sipping tequila with blue curaçao and a dash of orange bitters. Pretty nice.

In germany, you rarely get a good IPA. That's probably why I like them so much when in the U.S...

Sounds delicious! Could you provide details about the bitters you use? I just recently dicovered angoustura bitter, and I like to learn more about that stuff...

Angostura bitters are lovely as well Orange bitters are another "assorted plants/herbs in a tincture of neutral spirits" product, but the flavor is gentler than Angostura and has a predominantly orange-peel taste. The brand I have is Fee Brothers, which I think is sorta the de facto standard; I use it here to further accent the orange flavor of the curaçao.
