What's your poison?

Tonight, it's something slightly different. The jury's still out as to whether I really like Cognac or not? (It definitely improves as it warms up though.)

RE: What's your poison?
As someone living in Scotland (and who has a whisky shelf in the living room with about 13 bottles on it), I'm not a fan of adding ice - it changes the temperature and aroma/flavour of the whisky. Personally I recommend a small drop of water if you want to dilute the whisky a bit - still, each to their own.

Anyway, what's the best whisky you've ever tasted? For me, it is this: https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/3184...lay-barley

Heavily peated, but with a beautiful fruity aftertaste that takes you completely by surprise. I had a bottle of it a few years back when it could be found for a lot less than this is selling at (I should add).

The OCTOMORE 2010 EDITION 07.3, looks to be very nice! (I must see if I cant maybe obtain some locally.)

As far as adding ice to my whisky goes, I tend to like it, as it slowly dilutes the whisky more and more as the ice melts, so you start off with a strong tasting drink, that gradually mellows as you drink it.

I only add three block of ice as a personal rule, and drink the whisky at a rate, which results in the beverage being completely consumed before all of the ice has completely melted.

What's extremely important here is that you use very high quality water to make your ice, so that it doesn't negatively affect the taste of the whisky.

In my current whisky collection, I unfortunately only have a large amount of the rather commercial whiskeys, including the following:

Johnnie Walker Gold
Johnnie Walker Swing
Johnnie Walker Blue
Bell's 8 in the ceramic bell-shaped decanter from 2008
The Singleton 12
Chivas Regal 12
Chivas Regal 18
Chivas Regal Royal Salute
Chivas Regal Revolve
Dewar's Signature Blended Scotch Whisky

My two favorites here are the Dewar's Signature Blend and the Chivas Regal Royal Salute. (Johnny Walker Blue falls far short of these two in my opinion.)

RE: What's your poison?
After watching a review of Dewar's Signature and Johnnie Walker Blue, I decided to have some Johnnie. For me, it's just too piety!

Even though it differs from the review, I personally prefer the Dewar's

Here are the two reviews:

Seeing I'm on a role with the whiskey's I decided to give this one a try as well. It's very fruity and not nearly as piety as the Johnnie Blue!

Well, as there's so many pictures, here's one of my current whisky shelf. Living in Scotland does mean plenty of access to nice single malts Smile

Regarding Octomore, there's a number of versions, all should be pretty good - so I wouldn't restrict yourself to the one I linked to. I tried it first when I visited the Bruichladdich distillery on Islay a few years ago. They let me try a dram and it was incredible. In fact, have a picture of me in the distillery gift shop Smile

RE: What's your poison?
Thanks - saying that, there is a Bourbon on there as well as I do like a nice Bourbon from time to time. I'm also not against the odd blend as well. I had a Naked Grouse a year or two back that was absolutely lovely! The Ale Cask Grants is also a nice blend as well.

Edit: I should also add that because I travel a lot on business, there are a few airport exclusives on there as well - such as the Bunnahabhain.
