Hello guys, 
Today I received my R12k 400mhz for my octane with board 030-0887-004, which I checked that should work properly.
When I swapped the cpu the octane booted correctly then when i shut it down and cold boot it the red led started to blink. I tried several things and then by pure luck when i cold booted it again i turned it off and then on again, and voilla it booted correctly.
I then remembered and old pc i had which had the same symptom, result power supply not able to handle power demand. Then I started to remove everything and putting back together. Result the new hdd an Seagate barracuda 15k 320gb was the issue. I putted my original ibm hdd and voilla system is back to normal with my new Cpu.
When I bought this hdd i thought it might be too powerful for the octane but i bought it anyway. 

Just wanted to share this with you there might be someone out there facing same issues.

Can you please confirm the model of Octane PSU you are using? Also perhaps your graphics version as well?

Its an octane 1 my psu is 060-0035-001, and my graphics card is si with tram

That part number claims to be a Cherokee power supply, which what you want. However your using a 1st gen mainboard with a later CPU (though you’re correct it should work) and you didn’t say it was a dual CPU, so yes.

It does sound similar to PSU issues one might find in the PC world. You might want to check your PROM version to ensure you’re running the last published version as well.
