Coffee Anyone?

Coffee Anyone?
As far as I'm concerned, coffee is one of the most important things in life!

Here I take you through the laborious process of home brewing a cup of coffee, making use of a Japanese Coffee Syphon:

Cool video, looks fun but way too much glass to fiddle with in the morning for me. I would break that stuff for sure. I use a Mokka Pot (same one going on 16 years) it get the job done.

What a great video!

I'm sure that nice collection of SGIs is the real motivator for getting up in the morning tho'!

Those induction hobs are great and so fast! You didn't even need to cut the video. ;-)

Do you know what kind of pressure the water is drawn through under? How does it compare to a machine espresso or to the Aeropress?

What camera and settings did you use for the static shot of the burner at the beginning and the end? The colours of the flame are so good!

These machines do a pretty good job and they're very cool visually speaking and create a great ambience in a coffee shop!

Once you get used to it, it becomes rather easy to manage, but mokka pot's also do a great job!

The pressure exerted across the filter is a combination of the effect of gravity acting on the water as well as atmospheric pressure, so I would say that it's just above 1-bar of pressure. A decent espresso machine delivers at least 14 bar's of pressure to the group head.

The picture of the burner was simply taken with my iPhone.

The coffee made by this process is somewhere between espresso and the coffee you'd get from a french press.

I happen to have the following other coffee machines and will be reviewing them all in due course:

The Aeropress Coffee Maker - Excellent portable system to take to work.
The ROK espresso maker - Excellent performance with the right grind
The Otto stove top espresso machine - fiddly, however delivers great results, once you've mastered it.
The Victoria Arduino Theresia espresso machine - absolutely awesome coffee that equals that from the best coffee shops. (Although this machine is specified for home use, it's industrial quality.)

All of these machines and methods are nice in their own way.

I must say that the Victoria Arduino Theresia is a hard machine to beat, it's about the best machine you can possibly have at home:

Here's a cup of coffee made with this machine:

Can't beat a good coffee! We have a Sage Barista Express, it grinds the beans automatically, but the tamping of the puck, plus the other settings (grind size etc) are manual. Took a bit of getting used to, but makes wonderful coffee once you've got the hang of it.

That looks to be a pretty cool, sturdy machine! Smile

Nah, late night hacking sessions means trouble to get out of bed in the morning.

I don't have the time or energy to deal with a manual machine in the morning so we have a Seaco Royal Cappuccino:

More workhorse than interior design piece, but if you put good stuff in, good stuff comes out Smile I think it made ~ 11000 cups since we bought it in 2014.
