A bit off topic... I know this sun keyboard color scheme matches the blade100/150 color scheme, but they look dirty/wrong when out of context Biggrin

Agreed, I got this Keyboard and Mouse with my Sun Fire V880Z, which it goes with very well!

RE: Restoration of a Power Mac G3 Beige
I've spent hours installing software and games onto my new G3 Beige!
"UnStuffing" multiple disk games such as Riven took hours!

Last night I encountered a problem once I installed Riven from disk 1: while copying the contents of the data directories on discs 2 to 5 into the data directory in the Riven game directory on the system’s drive (This needs to be done in order to run it diskless), I suffered a disk error which the “disk first aid” application in OS9 couldn’t resolve, as it couldn’t even read the system disk!!!!

So I removed the hard drive and brought out my G4 Digital Audio!

I had a spare 80GB ATA drive lying around, so I repartitioned it using the G4. After completing this task, I thought, “let me try and repartition the failed disk”!

So I fitted the failed disk into the G4, booted off the OSX installation disk and ran the disk utility!

Rather than repartitioning it first go, I opted to try and repair it using the OSX disk utility.

Like magic, it was able to see the disk and carry out the repair!

I returned the “now repaired” disk to the G3 beige, and it worked!!!

I was able to successfully complete the installation of Riven before calling it a night, or morning for that matter!

Through all of this drama, I didn’t lose my OS9 setup which I had spent hours setting up!

The lesson I learned here is: don’t be too quick to try and repartition a “failed” disk!

RE: Restoration of a Power Mac G3 Beige
I just purchased two LG FLATRON displays. I’m currently cleaning this one out, as I plan to pair it with this machine. (The other also works, but will be kept for spares, as it's not in as good physical condition as this one is)

After a good dusting: (I also cleaned the plastics thoroughly)

It’s starting to look a bit better! Now I need my adjustable keyboard! (Here the screen was running @ 832x624, 75Hz)

It looks best with this setting:

At 85Hz, I can’t perceive any flicker, but with anything lower than that I can!
This is a very similar setting to what I’ve setup on my Apple ADC Studio Display CRT.

Here's the latest on this system:

[Image: AC4ECEC5-A374-493E-A579-661499542C1A.jpg?m=1751872613]

The system now has its ADB Adjustable Keyboard. I still need to acquire an ADB mouse to complement the keyboard, but the Microsoft Natural, running through the USB hub on the 21" Studio Display will do for now.

I'm currently in the process of purchasing this XLR8 MACh Velocity MPe G4 450MHz ZIF Dual CPU Upgrade for this machine, which will ultimately allow me to run this machine with dual CPU's! (DUAL CPU'S IN A BEIGE!!!)

This will convert this machine into something pretty interesting! Smile

My CPU Upgrade for my G3 Beige has arrived in the country from Germany and is currently going through customs, so I should hopefully have it in about two weeks or so!

Hopefully I can get it up and running in the machine without too many issues! Once this thing's up and running, the search will start for a secondary XLR8 450MHz G4 CPU to make it a dual setup! (The secondary CPU's probably going to cost a small fortune!)

That's Motorola for ya, you can get an i7-8700 for a hundred bucks on ebay. Back in the day we used to do all our data analysis on Macs using PV Wave, which, by the way, is still available, perforce dot com, very useful expensive commercial software.

My XLR-8 MACh Velocity MPe CPU card arrived today! 🙂

After quite a bit of struggling I've got it up and running! (ended up repartitioning my OS9 disk when I didn't have to.)

This little toy has cost me a hell of allot of money so far ,and it still needs its second CPU! (This is pretty much the only one of these cards pictured on the internet, so they're damn rare!)

RE: Restoring a Power Mac G3 Beige Mini Tower
That takes me back. My 7500 came with a G3 accelerator card from phase5. In my eagerness to wipe the disk and set up a clean install, I didn't back up the cache control panel assuming it would be online. Well it wasn't and after some investigations I found I could use the XLR8 one just fine in its place.

About 10 years later I finally found the proper phase5 software as they had relaunched the website at some stage, apparently for some vapourware Amiga product.

Back in the 80s (late 80s), our group had one Mac, we used it (as I mentioned previously) for data reduction with the PV Wave software, but after hours we used it to play Crystal Quest:
