Sacrilege against a Fuel!
Okay,
I just saw this on eBay and thought
"that's got to be a misspelling",
Nope turns out someone just has no respect for nature and the rule of law: https://www.ebay.com/itm/285581208477

Scream
We all know occasionally we see people ask about modding cases. And I know we always put up a unified front that basically says there's a special place in the afterlife for people that do this and it's not pleasant and if we ever catch you you better hope we don't catch you.   Triumph

For a fuel I can't say I can bring myself to do anything but laugh. Considering how unreliable and how much they cook themselves it probably runs cooler!

He cut up the case, it can no longer be used for its original purpose.   I'd like a new fuel case where can I find one of those? Oh wait I can't.

It's more of a crime if someone did it to an Octane or O2 or Tezro, for me. I don't hate the fuel, but it's my least favorite sgi

Love the Fuel or not...

The question here is... why?

Amigas are another niche where people value the ecosystem not only because of its technical features, but also aesthetics and "feel". So this is basically nonsensical to me.

However...
It was most probably done out of an irreparable Fuel, so at least the chassis was spared the landfill.

I agree that it makes no sense, but he could have at least done a proper job of the metalwork!!! (You can always drill out rivets and fit custom panels!!!)

Makes more sense to get the money and burn it to keep yourself warm ;-)

Mind you the drive flap looks good, but min bid is a bit to much for just a good door flap...

Eckchully, you can. It's exactly the same as something else, with a slightly different front clipon plastic thing. The case is absolutely nothing special. In fact, it's not even nice. I spent some time playing around designing something the mainboard could go in that looked decent once, but the multiple failures of power supplies discouraged me from further fool ownership.

Thanks to kubatyzko one might rethink that now but at the time, it was purely disgusting.

Fucking sgi could break the ears off a brass donkey, on even the simplest ideas they screwed the pooch. What's the point of an inexpensive commodity workstation if you make it unreliable and unrepairable ? Those people were dickheads.

SGI outsourced almost everything on the Fuel, as well as on the Visual Workstations. At that time, SGI was circling the drain and grasping at straws to try to stay alive. If the board had listened to Jim Clark in 1993, SGI could be the Nvidia of today, but the board sided with that idiot CEO, Ed McCraken, and seeing the handwriting on the wall, Jim Clark left and founded Netscape. SGI made one last gasp attempt at relevance with the Prism, but after that, they were broken up into chunks and sold off, first to Rackable and then to HP. Which just makes you wonder how retarded the management at HP could possibly be to think buying the shattered remnants of SGI was a good idea. The staffing at Nvidia is jam-packed with former SGI employees, so, I guess in a way, you could consider that SGI did in fact survive, in a different guise as Nvidia.
