I wonder if there's an issue with the RS423 port. I'm not overly familiar with DEC computers, but the fact that those two types of keyboards require a fixed baud rate of 4800 leads me to believe that perhaps the garbage data the keyboard produces sometimes is an incorrect baud rate setting sneaking in somehow. Perhaps when you pull the RTC the baud rate issue is corrected temporarily.

Again, I have no experience directly with DECs, but if I had to guess where to look at this point, that would be next place. Hope that helps somewhat.

Re: Latest purchase?
Not a purchase as such, but acquired (for free) an old HP Z400 workstation from work for my dad as the motherboard in his old PC has given up the ghost. Not too bad a spec actually:

Xeon W3565 quad core 3.2GHz (based on 2nd Gen Core i7)
16GB DDR3 RAM
Nvidia Quadro graphics, can't remember the model number
1x 500GB drive, 2x 1TB drives

Should do him nicely enough!

Indigo2 R10000/IMPACT  R10000 195MHz, 384MB RAM, MaxIMPACT (1MB), 36GB 15k & 300GB 10k drives, new/quiet fans, 100Mb G160 NIC, IRIX 6.5.22&

O2  in storage...

I bought the most recent RTC I could find on eBay, from 2011, because I do not have the right tools for a repair. So, the Keyboard works since two bootups. It looks like you can not chance change any baud rate in the SRM console, but the problem seems solved and I can boot OpenVMS in a graphical enviroment.

Indigo 2 R10k/195, 640 MB of RAM, Solid Impact.

The HDD is dead so I'm now in process of finding a new one.

I am no longer posting from the moose, SGI O2 with R10k/250, 1GB RAM,  IRIX 6.5.27, unfortunately.

Nice! The HDD shouldn't be too hard to find, especially if you get an 80 pin drive with adapter.

No longer active. Please do not contact me.

A Nintendo 64, as it turns out! Not the dev unit, or anything special beyond having the easily RGB-moddable first revision motherboard.

I really just wanted something to play Goldeneye again.

Re: Latest purchase?
I also have a N64. Sometimes I play Goldeneye and Turok. Those games totally blew me away, 1998, or so. It was pure magic.

I finally got the J300 Sound and Motion, equipped with "World's first real-time JPEG codec", for my DEC 3000! It makes this computer able to play and capture JPEG videos and sound in CD quality. Without it, the DEC 3000 can only do 8bit-µlaw. But yet I have to set up the software. I am very exited ^^

RE: Latest purchase?
Just won an eBay auction for a Sony PVM-9041QM 9" CRT broadcast monitor a few days ago.
It's missing one of the front rack handles, and the other one is loose, but I got it for a very good price anyway. I just hope it will arrive in one piece! Wink

RE: Latest purchase?
Traded a pile of MIDI gear I haven't been using and picked up an Epiphone version of the Gibson Thunderbird bass (the proper neck-through model, not the cheap-ass bolt-on one.) Loving it Smile
