As the title says. sndio is an Open BSD sound driver API which is supported by many projects including Firefox and several multimedia systems. It is reasonably high performance and low latency and would serve as a good alternative to having to write dmedia back ends for everything. 

They currently have a back end for Solaris so it should be reasonably possible for us. 

So yeah you are tasked with writing a backend and getting the package to build cleanly on IRIX. Your code must build with MIPSPro, I don't offer a penalty concession for this particular type of job. 

That doesn't mean that you can't ask the community for help but I need to underwrite that if you get somebody else to help you substantially as in write a major portion of your code I would highly suggest splitting the Bounty and I don't mind if you come talk to me about that. I would rather people be honest and open and will make sure that everybody is satisfied. If you can get it upstreamed you get a $50 bonus.
