Convert DSC Softimage files to a modern format.
Hi there, I need to open some .dsc files that were created in XSI around 1999 or 2000. From what I understand, Softimage 2010 is the last version that will open .dsc files, so I'm looking for that version or earlier. They were created on IRIX but I'm running Win 10, so ideally if someone has a Windows compatible installer that would be amazing. I don't have license codes - not sure if Autodesk cares about that anymore? Thx in advance!

RE: Softimage XSI installer? (2010 or earlier)
Hello mdouglas,

We don't allow people to request software for Windows or other platforms besides IRIX on our services because it presents us with serious legal liability as we are hosted in the United States.

https://forums.irixnet.org/thread-2258.html

You can request irix software here but if you just need somebody to open the files and or export/convert them you might be better off calling on a favor from one of our members here. I'm more on the HPC side of things here so this is not my wheelhouse but it should be possible to find some type of compatible format I'm sure

Technical problems should be sent my way.

OK, thanks Raion. Sorry, I didn't know about that. If there's some way for me to emulate Irix in Windows then that could possibly work. Alternately, the company who needs these files might be willing to pay for someone's time to convert these assets, as there are a bunch of them (FYI it's from a classic animated TV series). Thanks!

Emulation is possible but not at good speed. I'm sure that someone will offer to help. I'm updating the thread title for you.

FYI, if someone is able to help with converting these assets, we'd pay for their time. I wouldn't expect someone to go out of their way to convert a bunch of assets for free. Cheers.

I'm pretty sure you can open dsc files with Nikon's viewNX software.

This .dsc is the Softimage3D scene format, not the Nikon format.
You can open it with any old Softimage XSI version on windows (v2010 or earlier), maybe with Softimage3D v4.0
This is not an IRIX or SGI related problem, these are cross platform files.
