O2+ red led of death ?
I was using my O2+ yesterday evening with great fun, trying the new DevilutionX port and stuff. It was running fine ... I started DevilutionX, watched the in-game video intro, and the video froze. The machine was usable, I could kill the process, but got strange video corruption on screen so decided to reboot the machine, thinking the SDL port was not really ready for prime time ...

The machine never rebooted. It just shut down to a red led, no chime, no screen. I tried a few unplugging/replugging to no avail. I disconnected everything and let it rest for the night.

Today is the same. Fan starts as soon as I plug the power, red led stays on, power button has no action ... I tried a "regular" O2 mainboard in the O2+ case, works fine. I cleaned the board, reseated ram, tried without ram, without flat panel adapter ... nothing. Blank

The "Hardware Reference" suggests "Replace CPU module" but I guess the three months warranty is now out  Smile

Does anybody have a suggestion ? May a dead Dallas RTC chip have that kind of effect ? Thanks !

RE: O2+ red led of death ?
I've not had this, nor am a pro at O2 troubleshooting (hardly use mime at the moment). But, firstly I'd suggest this:

Unplug and remove the PSU...now smell it...any acrid or odd smell? Pull the mainboard, inspect for damage and also smell.

If you detect an odor see if you can get close and follow it to a possible shorted or burnt component/region.

The O2 was built with Polyfuses that are SUPPOSED to reset on power issues. But with age...they just explode or don't reset. The polyfuses are the metal archway-looking, boxy, components with like 150 and 100 engraved on them. Kind of looks like the arch from the star trek TNG holideck :-)

So a hard look for discoloration or anything would be my current hope. I know the red LED is kind of a meaningless dummy light (could be whatever) but it's a board issue. So it's either related to poor contact (local heating, burning), incorrect power, or damage.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have a look. I replaced the DS1687 and closed the jumper next to it but it had no effect.

The R12k cpu is a kind of mezzanine, is there a way to take it apart or should I better not ? Anybody experienced in troubleshooting O2's ?
