Resolution change on Tezro

Resolution change on Tezro
Hi, just did the fresh install of IRIX 6.5.28 on a Tezro with V12 DCD and i cannot get it work with plain 1920x1200 resolution on a SyncMaster 245B or SyncMaster 2243 with 1680x1050 resolution. There simply are no .VFO files with those resolutions (well there is 1920x1200_60p and 1920x1200_25f but picture is slightly wobbly).
Not to tell you that after the reboot of freshly installed OS on SyncMaster 2243 the display went immediately blank. I've tried a lot of resolutions with $/usr/gfx/setmon but there aren't a lot of choices. Is there somekind of solution or i have to stick to SyncMaster 2243? Thank you.

RE: Resolution change on Tezro
I thought the Tezro/Fuel DVI were single-link only - 1080P each.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong (that would be great).

Single-link can handle 1920x1200, it's only once you get up to 2560x1440/1600 that you need dual-link DVI.

Saying that, the V12 *should* be able to handle 1920x1200 OK, but it may need a custom VFO to be created.

Ok, but how do I make a custom .VFO for 1920x1200?  Smile

Tezro manual, print page 139 shows supported video modes. I was correct that analog-max of SINGLE LINK DVI is Max supported resolution.

So what you want should work:
1920x1200 @ 60hz

Also as I mentioned on PM, you can only use the two lower DVI ports once you have a DCD. Also your monitor must support DVI-A and DVI-D. Irix OS is DVI-D, Tezro PROM is DVI-A. So the monitor will physically switch at the time the software switches.

Thanks, it was actually my DVI to D-SUB converter that was 'evil'!  :-D When i connected Tezro to DVI it all worked out. Again many thanks!

That explains it, the moment the OS started, it went blank!  VGA cannot do DVI-D, only DVI-A!  To be fair, this is why we ask for complete info.  You didn't mention the use of an adapter cable.  I mentioned you shouldn't use HDMI for the opposite reason (no DVI-A signal), if you'd mentioned you tried VGA, we'd have said you need both the DVI-D and DVI-A connections...it's not configurable.

1920x1200 through the DCD works fine. Even with with two displays. Documented the journey here: https://forums.irixnet.org/thread-1049.html. DVI-D directly to the monitor.

Wow, I don’t know how I missed your posting on this.  What a major pain.  I have DCDs on both Tezros but never bothered with two monitors, let alone more than 1280x1024 resolutions.

Can anyone that knows video production of the time shed light on this?   Was SGI going for video/film output formats for their DVI systems instead of the VESA standard emerging then?  Or is all of this just straddling a thin line of time where VESA modes for HD VESA had not yet been finalized?

Just curious if anyone can provide and acceptable answer on this.
