So couple of days ago, I safe a Octane and a Fuel....Octane has a bad PSU so I concentrating on the Fuel. 
I Connected to the L1 Controller and I can execute command and everything looks good so far.
They unit has a CD-ROM but no HD. I connected the DVI cable but I dont get any screen output.

So my question, do I suppose to see something in the monitor without HD?
Any command on the L1 to test the hardware, or to check if it see the SCSI devices?

Another issue, sometime the 12v line sound that drop under 10v....and the unit shutdown during power up, when normalize at 11.x unit look like if fine....does that is a sign to replace the PSU with a new ATX?

Yes, the monitor should come on without a drive. If there's no signs of life from the DVI, then your video card is either not plugged in correctly, or it's dead. Dead as a doornail.

Note, this assumes ENV monitoring isn't knackered.

If the env monitoring is knackered, the video card won't come online. At all.

Get a null-modem. I gave you baud settings on your other post.

Are you using a real DVI monitor or are you using some sort of HDMI to DVI adapter? A lot of SGIs output using DVI-A during their PROM screen. Which is the analog form of DVI before the OS boots. Then they switch the digital DVI-D.

Please confirm you are using a DVI cable to a DVI port natively on your monitor.

Also on modern SGI L1, 10% off nominal values get a warnings, 20% earns you an auto-shutdown.

So 12v * 10% = 1.2v
12v * 20% = 2.4v

Warnings for 12v is 10.8 or less and 13.2 or more.
Shutdown must occur at 9.6v or less and 14.4v or more


Same formula for all other voltages listed on the table.

Fuel PSU has the worst record of any SGI made, that’s why they’re so scarce. They didn’t sell well and they failed early so people threw them out years ago. Now that they’re scarce they command high prices and people try to fix them. It’s the only SGI where an ATX adapter is currently offered and fully supported by the system from a third party source.

Update, I got a new Hard Drive for the unit, I able to boot fx.64 and do a repartition, label but when I try to Install Irix 6.5 it fail complaining that (0,1,1) Partition dont have /unix ....when in get into the Monitor console, does not have any file system....any help to get Irix loaded...FYI, everyone will tell that use network boot, but I can not get neither the MAC of the NIC....

When you say Irix 6.5…you’re not literally trying to install Irix 6.5, right?

Fuel is a late model station and requires at least Irix version 6.5.17 or higher. What overlay media are you using? If you are literally putting in purple Irix 6.5 media, that would be a huge problem. You need a version of the OS that supports that hardware.

Please confirm what media you are using.

If you’re just arbitrarily choosing Irix versions please use the last Irix version (latest) 6.5.30 for further testing.

That exception is serious and likely a hardware issue. I don’t think that is a memory issue…but I’m not sure. Someone more experienced with TLB exceptions will need to chime in.

Recheck your memory layout compared to the SGI Fuel manual. See if you can whittle down your RAM to essentially bare min and retry in hopes that is a bad memory module.

Outside of that and resetting things like the PIMM module, I’m out of ideas at the moment but you may have found the reason it was thrown away.

What part it is and how to fix it as another matter that without part swapping, we might not be able to help you. Board level repair is a new thing for SGIs and undocumented as well so there’s not much you can do outside of swapping parts which takes time and money.

Try a different memory config (swap around bare minimum ram modules) and try 6.5.30 and see there is a different error with more info.
