O2 display output questions

O2 display output questions
Hopefully someone can clear this up.

1. As I understand the max resolution (VGA outpuit) is 1280x1024? Is this right? I have a CRT that can go higher but this is the max option I get in IRIX.
2. If I'm using the flat panel adapter with an 1600sw, do I still get an output on the VGA port? If so, is this the same resolution as the 1600sw?
I read somewhere that the VGA output is disabled when using the 1600SW, but someone said you can still get output on it.
3. If there's no VGA output when using the 1600SW (with an flat panel adapter), is there any way to capture the video output from the flat panel adapter?

Thanks.

False, you can make a VFO to go higher. This process is a bit esoteric, however.

AFAIK, no, it won't work over VGA

You'd need to construct an OpenLDI splitter, and put the other one into a multilink adapter and thus into a supported capture card.

RE: O2 display output questions
Thanks for the quick reply. I've seen some posts about people compiling their own VFO, but this seems quite tricky as you state.
Regarding point 3, doesn't the multilink go the other way? The source is VGA/DVI and the output (to display) is OpenDLI. So I would need a OpenDLI supported capture device.

My only/best option would be to create a VFO that supports the 1600SW resolution, then output it to a Multilink adpater and connect an 1600SW monitor to it. A VGA splitter cable can also send the signal to a capture device.

Edit: I found this from the 1600sw flat panel adapter manual:

So it seems it should be possible to use VGA ouput at the same time.  Also there seems to be a VFC (<-link) file for connecting a 1600SW via VGA port through a multilink.

Oh well WHOOPS - I've never owned an MLA so my ignorance is showing.

I don't believe, as the manual says, it's designed to work that way. It could probably cause a lot of issues.

RE: O2 display output questions
I.m trying to install vfc on IRIX 6.5 but I'm getting conflicts in the software manager:
- vfc.sw.base is incompatible with eoe.sw.base
- vfc.books.VFC_PG is incompatible with eoe.sw.base

I got vfc from the foundations 2 tar.gz from the ftp. Anyone know how to resolve this? I did install development libraries 1.2 CHALLENGE Complib files before, not sure if these are necessary.

RE: O2 display output questions
It's a version mis-match.  Look for vfc patches on the discs for whatever version of IRIX is on your O2 (running 'uname -R' at a shell prompt will tell you).  E.g., if you're running 6.5.22 there's probably a newer vfc somewhere on the 6.5.22 patch disks.

Thanks. If I go here: http://ftp.irixnet.org/sgi-irix/patches/
Which one do I need? uname -R outputs "6.5 6.5.30f".

RE: O2 display output questions
It's not in the "patches" directory.  You need Disk 2 of the 6.5.30 set at http://ftp.irixnet.org/sgi-irix/irix-6.5...sc2.tar.gz.  You'll find vfc_6530 packages there that will be compatible with what you already have installed.  (Note those may just be patches for the vfc packages you previously tried to install.  In that case you'll need to install both the plain vfc and vfc_6530 stuff simultaneously.)

RE: O2 display output questions
Thanks man. I indeed found it in that disk an used together with foundation 2 CD. What tripped me up was the about system page listed 6.5 and I used uname -r instead of uname -R which also returns 6.5. So I thought I only had 6.5 installed Tongue. I'm still learning about IRIX.

Btw do you maybe know where I can find the snapshot tool to install, it would be convenient to post screenshot when troubleshooting stuff like this in the future.

RE: O2 display output questions
uname -saR is what I usually use for uname stuff.

As for screenshots there's a video and desktop screenshot tool. I forget the name but it's really powerful
