Proliant DL360 G4P memory fail
Just venting, not really expecting any assistance, but hey if you know something please chime in!

It has 6 memory slots, each of which has a little yellow LED that lights up when the system detects a RAM failure. The first four slots work fine, but putting any memory into slots 5 and 6, immediately on powering up the yellow failure LEDs all light up on all six slots and it puts out the beep code for memory failure (yes, the memory I put in all six slots is known good).

For what it's worth, the RAM sticks are new PC2-3200 DDR2 400 SDRAM 2GB, and the CPUs are two new dual-core Intel xeons, 2.8 GHz/800 MHz - 2 x 2 MB L2.

This is a brand new, never used old stock server. Annoying! Mad Triumph Scream Angry

RE: Proliant DL360 G4P memory fail
There are a few posted issues with higher density RAM modules CL rating:
https://community.hpe.com/t5/ProLiant-Se...IJ1xX1Kj0c

People seem to be saying that lower density modules use a CL2.5, while larger/newer ones have CL2...and that seems to be an issue? So that's all I could find on this (assuming you're also using the latest firmware on this server).

RE: Proliant DL360 G4P memory fail
Thanks weblacky, I did see that thread and as he found out, his problem was bad ramsticks, I know mine are good because I can boot the server just fine using the sticks I pull from slots five and six and move them to one, two, three or four. It's not really that big a deal if I run the server on 10 GB instead of 12, it's just really annoying to have an issue on what's supposed to be an enterprise class server. I haven't updated the firmware because, since this server is past its use-by date, HP no longer makes updates available. As I mentioned, this server is new in box, never before powered on. What's interesting is, in that thread that you referenced, the OP says no error LEDs came on, when he obviously had bad RAM installed. The only thing I can think is that he didn't have the cover off so he was talking about front panel LEDs. On mine, all six RAM error motherboard LEDs come on, even though the RAM in the first four slots is known good. Weird...

I ran into something similar while working on a Proliant DL380 G4. Have you checked whether the RAM is single or dual ranked. To populate all six slots, I think that the RAM needs to be single ranked.

That is definitely the problem emveiga, thanks you're a genius! Cool I would never have found that on my own... Clown
