What's the best graphics option for an AlphaStation 255?

I have been following these on eBay and they reach hefty prices. Can't imagine how much a 4D60 with 32MB would cost if some of the lower end models have a 800 or 900 usd price tag. And that's for PCI.

Anyways, this is the definitive guide to graphics adapters on Alpha:

Just wanted to share.

My card should arrive from Canada next Monday, if all goes well.

After doing some searching, I have found that the card is actually a Powerstorm 4D60 (Realizm 1.3) A slightly under clocked VX25-T made by Intergraph specially for DEC AlphaStations.

Here's an example of the same card that I found on what I think to be a Japanese forum, covering AlphaStations:

This card has two 16MB TRAMS installed

This is a picture showing part of one of the TRAMS installed in my card, allowing me to identify it:

So I identified them to be these TRAMS:

Looking up the numbers on the chips present on the module, I found someone selling them on eBay and managed to get their specs:

The chips are 2MB each, so my card is equipped with 16MB of TRAM. (Over and above the 32MB of RAM present on the card)

I just hope that it interfaces with the card that I bought, as It's allot more powerful than the geometry accelerator that's actually intended for my card!

"MSMT493 accelerator equipped with 14 Analog Devices SHARC fixed-point DSPs. The whole was used for three-dimensional modeling and cost the same as a mid-range car at the time. Note that the Lynx IV's computing power was significantly higher than that of the high-end PCs back then. The Lynx IV accelerator could be coupled to other Intergraph cards and also, to further increase the computing power, to another card of the same type."

"A geometry accelerator board equipped with 14 SHARC series DSPs called Analog Devices ADSP-21062L, which has a very strong visual impact. It seems that sane people can't easily design such a board ... Since this DSP has peak 120 MFlops and sustained 80 MFlops, the performance of this card is 14 times this, which means 1.68 GFlops and 1.12 GFlops, respectively."

"Intergraph Intense3D Realizm II + card (MSMT415 rev. A) with Lynx III accelerator (MSMT382), the latter containing 7 Analog Devices SHARC DSPs."

The graphics card has arrived and I've slotted it into my AlphaStation:

Here are some pics of the card:

This is the graphics card upgrade path that the machine has been through:

I'm currently installing Windows 2000 on the machine, with the hope of getting proper drivers for the card installed!

RE: What's the best graphics option for an AlphaStation 255?
Does anyone know what driver to use for a realizm card in Windows NT4 or 2000 on an Alphastation?

jammaster got his to work, but he seems to be missing in action!

Any help would be much appreciated!

The 3dlabs drivers aren't working! (Aren't installing!)

After a huge amount of searching, I finally found the correct Compaq native Alpha driver for the card!
