Red Fever Trouble

RE: Red Fever Trouble
The seller sent me the original keyboard, mouse and cables. And of course I could not resist restaurating them. Here are some quick pictures:

So because I have an original keyboard-cable now (which was appearantly soldered by hand!), I can compare this to my adapter.

RE: Red Fever Trouble
While browsing eBay for parts I came across the following power supply: "Fuji PEX479-30 (925 Watt Power Supply)" / SUN 300-1043, which was initially made for the SUN 4/260 from 1972. It is very similar to the PowerOne SPM5 with +5V (150A!) -5.2V -12V +12V. Would that be a viable alternative for the Crimson?

The 4/260 is from 1987. I think it can supply a Crimson's power demand, question is how sensing is implemented.

Yes, that is also my concern. And how to jumpstart this PSU while bypassing Crimsons circuit breaker board. And I would have to figure out Crimson's harness designation and the polarity of the big lugnut-150A-rails. (that I can derive from the many pictures I collected from PowerOnes)

Sensing via this "P3"-Plug I guess (3x3 matrix, PowerOne's diferrent).

@Jan-Jaap: Do you know if Crimson works without this plugged in?

RE: Red Fever Trouble
J1 connects to P4, and seems to be for sensing inside the PSU-only (no data-line to Crimson).
I bought this PSU for UKP 175 (plus additional shipping and customs). With 14 days return and warranty it is worth a try.

RE: Red Fever Trouble
So I connected all the leads to the "new" PSU, and no luck. It draws 9,1 Watts from the wall, but does not switch on whatsoever. I have got zero Volts on all leads. An internal inspection shows a clean unit with no sign of usage.

I guess it would help to know, how SUN 4/260 switches this thing on. J1 is clear: since the seller shipped the cable harness with this supply, it is even marked with "5V" and "GND". All pins on J1 carry 0,3 Volts.

There are som low-res images on Obsolyte, but I cannot infer from them how the power-on switching is realized: Here're a few details of the power supply:

I hooked it up again with a dummy-load and poked ariound the 12V, -12V, -5.2V and 5V leads with no avail. Any ideas?

Server PSU PEX 737-30 How to turn it on ?

Fuji still makes new PSUs, these are switched on by shorting wires...

RE: Red Fever Trouble
In your post #37, there is an image of the PSU with J1 connected, it shows only two wires leading in. Those will likely be the command lines to power on the supply.
It's interesting that the Sun Field Engineers reference lists all the connections except for that one.

Yes - exactly! I very thoroughly read through that PDF, and no mention how J1 is actually connected. BUT The seller sent me the original SUN cable harness that belonged to this PSU. And the 2 wires are marked with "GND" and "5V", and in the images from Obsolyte the red wire actually goes to the +5V lugnut.

So I wrote an E-mail to the curator of an computer museum, and he wants to see inside their SUN 4/260, how this PSU is connected from the back of the machine to that switch on the front.
