Analog to digital video conversion thread...

RE: Analog to digital video conversion thread...
The digital video O2 adapter cannot/doesn't use the O2cam (https://techpubs.jurassic.nl/manuals/hdw...ml#id85612). They though the big-boy toys didn't need the webcam...so gone. The digital DB9 connector on the SIDE of the digital video O2 card is detailed in the manual (https://techpubs.jurassic.nl/manuals/hdw...#id5436309).

Looks like an SCSI-3 connector.

I need an breakout cable for an LMP U2 Digital Component Interface.
They are similar to SCSI-3 VHDCI, but use spring latches instead of jackscrews.

The connector pinout is SGI proprietary. The pinout is in the O2 Workstation Hardware Reference Guide. It carries parallel Bt.601 signals.

This is your unit?
I think the best plan is to locate a VHDCI SCSI cable and remove the backshell from one side. You can then replace it with a spring-latch type backshell (787229-1) to attach to the O2.
An alternative is to remove the latch posts from the AV1 (they unscrew) and replace with jackscrew posts, 787004-3. This modification is incompatible with the other accessories like the Moosehead Camera and the Ensemble Carbon.

Making your own cable requires special tooling. The cost of this tooling was approximately $30,000 but it is no longer available.

I have an Ensemble "Carbon" breakout box for my O2. Unlike this box it has the same VHDCI connector you find on the O2 audio/video module:

The cable to connect the Carbon unit to the O2 has clips on both ends and is AMP part# 636327-2 (CHMP .8MM 68POS W/SPG LAT 2MTR):

The Carbon unit provides component and composite analogue video I/O. I also have a Miranda "Vivo" dongle for SDI digital video I/O:

The company I work for makes IEEE1394 and AS5643 protocol analyzers, mostly for the Aerospace & Defense markets. Our older models had a VHDCI connector, and we sold "spider cables" with a VHDCI on one end and 6 firewire plugs on the other end, plus a DB9 mostly for trigger I/O. These cables were assembled by hand.

Yes, the $30,000 is for the manual tooling, nothing automatic. The AMP 543580-1 and 543610-1 are used with the arbor press 91085-2. You can price them out if you want, but you can't buy them anymore.

That product is discontinued. You can still buy 1-636327-1, a 1.2m cable, for $90 from various distributors.

Unfortunately, that won't directly help the OP, since he needs a cable with spring latches on the O2 side and jackscrews on the U2 side. So my suggestion is to find a VHDCI SCSI-3 cable (pretty common for <$50) and change one of the backshells to the spring-latch version. You need to make sure that the connector insert is compatible, so the cable should have AMP backshells and can't be the offset type.

RE: Analog to digital video conversion thread...
So I believe I have finally found a CHEAP one stop hop cable for those who live in the usa (bummer for me). This amazon link https://www.amazon.ca/VeLLBox-Converter-...B01CZM4DOO an unavailable cable there is a product review from peter larson saying the cable works and displays sgi sync on green signals correctly. after googling the cable it appeared on sears website : https://www.sears.com/vellbox-b0062-vell...A084556260

where it appears to be for sale and in stock (sears also no longer exists in canada) so if someone wants to try it out ol there you go. however after more googling I also came up with this on prime cables as I figured vellbox was just some rebrand of chinese gear: https://www.primecables.ca/p-331692-cab-...rimecables Ill probably order it from there if they ship to canada

also on ebay apparently:https://www.ebay.ca/itm/VGA-to-HDMI-Adapter-with-USB-Audio-Power-Portable-VGA-to-HDMI-Converter-1080p/223633715905?hash=item34119bb2c1:g:nrsAAOSwyUxc3jG9
