Analog to digital video conversion thread...

RE: Analog to digital video conversion thread...
Thanks for the Extron 112xi suggestion, just got one for $24 on ebay. Of course shipping was $33! Wink

I was hoping for some small little converter that would just go inline on the cable and take up little space, but the Extron looks like really solid, serious hardware.

The Tripp Lite gives a nice clean display at most workstation like resolutions, but just goes black at some Linux vga like console resolutions. So it may work just fine on an SGi with a SOG converter.

But I found one of those Gefen scalers on ebay for around $100 and figured I'd try that one too given it has the ability to be fine tuned with a PC connection.

Now I just need a working SGI to start SOG testing. Well and for the Extron to show up, it's in transit and the tracking is vague.

I'll have to look at work and maybe borrow a thing or two to try out. We have some things that may do the job, but probably a bit too expensive.

Well, I tested an universal converter that we stock at work with no luck, the image had a green tint to it. If its any help to anyone though, the monitor I have my O2 connected to and us with it is an Acer AL2016W. Its a 20" LCD with only VGA input. The only problem I've had with using it is when turning the computer on or waking it up after the screen saver goes off, the image would blink off and on, which was easily fixed by unplugging and plugging in the VGA cable.

RE: Analog to digital video conversion thread...
Well, I finally got an SGI to test with!!! I put the Extron 112xi input cable in the SI board on an Indigo2, then the rear outputs to the Gefen VGA to DVI box and with minimal fiddling got an image on the HDMI input of my LG 31MU97-B.

Thanks for the tip on the Extron and Gefen units Jan-Jaap! I don't know if you have tried out one of your Gefen units, but mine seems to work very well. Works with this current SGI test setup with the Extron and also has been working well with analog signals from my KVM which is connected to Quadro cards on my Altix XE blades.

Now, I just need a way to go from USB on my KVM to the PS2 ports on the Indigo2 and I'm in business!

I have used Delll monitors 2007fp, Sony p232, x83, x94 and the new BenQ Zowie 27” esports monitor with all my SGIs using either a 13w3 to hd15 cable or adapter. To get resolutions higher than 1080, you will need a digital connection. I think the Fuel systems have the VPro gfx with dvi connectors.

Have any of you tried the Extron 300A? RGB and audio in and HDMI out.

The members of 68kmla seem to be finding good luck with their video inputs and the 1920x1200 is acceptable for most SGI hobbyists. I'm strongly thinking to buy one and test it out - can test out on O2, Octane, Indy, and Indigo2 if need be. You can update the firmware although I don't know if any of them have and benefitted from it.

Well, I'd email the Extron support staff if I were you because the datasheet doesn't say anything about Sync on Green support or tolerance. While many of the older SGI do in fact output H/V Sync signals, they don't stop outputting SOG. If the device doesn't at least tolerate it...well I hope you like green, just saying.

Yes, I have tried one briefly with an O2 and there was no green wash, so it seems to work.

Wich plug is needed vor the O2 AV1 Analog Video Option on the rear (where the Cam can be plugged) ?

Looks like an SCSI-3 connector.

I need an breakout cable for an LMP U2 Digital Component Interface.
