Premium User Lounge? (Feedback)

RE: Premium User Lounge? (Feedback)
It's a hypothetical question. Raion is trying to continue developing the site and keep things interesting. He just posts Ideas and sees how we respond to them. Ultimately they are just ideas, whether they're worth the time is stage 1 planning, then stage 2 ????, then stage 3 is profit.

Also, Soviet, missed your message.

Of the nearly 800 users, we have at least 100 who login regularly over a week's time, and in this year alone we've had 300 regular members who have periodically checked in. That's impressive for a vintage computer forum of this niche.

Nekochan maxed out at 2,000 members and about 200 members weekly. I say we can reach that, if not exceed it.

@soviet @raion I can confirm the site(s) moved 125,824,157 KB (125.8GB) of data over the wire in the last 7 days. This figure does not include additional hosts outside of my purview nor other affiliated sites. Furthermore the figure does not include backend or storage IO.

EDIT1: 14 day traffic volume was 594,273,767 KB
EDIT2: Peak traffic load sustained over 5 minute working average was 343Mbps
EDIT3: Just for fun added todays post for that O2. 176 views in 36minutes. Could be robots I guess.
EDIT4: Checked again and still at 176. Anyway, it's a busy place for sure  Smile

RE: Premium User Lounge? (Feedback)
As has been stated before, we're just trying to collect ideas for the moment and see if this is something that the community wants. It's been brought up a couple of times previously, so we figured it was probably time to examine it more closely.

I think that personal sites/discussion areas would be something that we could manage without massive difficulty. Getting that developed and implemented is going to take some time, though, so I'd just want to make sure that there's reasonable community interest for it first.

We have a fair number of artists and developers of various kinds here. Putting money from premium memberships/Patreon into focused projects could absolutely be a good incentive toward getting those efforts developed faster. Things like wallpapers, additional emojis, or other custom art could all be possible with the right people and incentives.

One of the most important elements of vintage computing for me is the preservation of information about these systems. There's a fair amount of documentation out there, but there can always be more. There have been a number of times where I've tried to find information on a specific part or configuration for a system and I can't find anything. Perhaps this could also help to sponsor the creation of more documentation, including full guides, teardown videos, and anything else of interest. Areas of focus for the next part of the project could be voted on by patrons and released in advance to them before being made public, as many YouTube channels do.

For the moment, what I want the most is to see what the greater community would be looking for from such a premium lounge/expanded Patreon. We're tossing some ideas out there, but what would be of the most use to you?

Well DefaultRoute that's just the static pages, wiki and uploads. The forum is still powered by a prepaid VPS. I haven't moved it because if it ain't broke don't fix it.

RE: Premium User Lounge? (Feedback)
As far as the feedback that's been provided so far I am very grateful at the community is giving me and the other staff here suggestions. Defaultrouteuk has been my idea guy for the last several weeks on things we can do for the community while waiting on Nekoware II to be primetime ready.

Please keep the ideas coming but just know that I am going to start taking this from pen to paper. I want people to know that just because we implement an idea X way, it doesn't mean that it's going to stay that way forever. Much like our early days I'm now trying to throw things at the wall and see what sticks with people.

Thank you very much guys.

I think this could act as a good portal to give premium members private access to the IRIX Network FTP, allowing for the proper vetting of those who have access to it.
