Somewhat funny that you think of riots, because I never thought about that. I guess that's an American thing. Here, people are stocking up on canned foods and toilet paper. Now, most stores have a 1 item - 1 customer policy and most people simply comply and only buy one bag of toilet paper. In many ways, this feels like a forced vacation, not like the zombie apocalypse.
My neighbors are close to 80, my grandma is over 90. I am rather worried about them.
Sometimes crazy stories can emerge. Around here, they closed down a full hospital. What happened? A doctor got COVID19 and developed only minor symptoms and - as doctors often do - went to work nonetheless. He still did surgery and had contact with hundreds of people during that time. Even if you give him the benefit of the doubt - as a doctor he probably knew and followed all the required safety procedures - that's not a good situation to control the infection.

I'm not saying COVID19 is the apocalypse, in fact, I think it's far from it. In my opinion, what's happening right now is that media sensationalism is driving massive, unrestrained, hysterical government overreaction to the point of economic and societal obliteration. I left Los Angeles (Marina Del Rey specifically) on Sunday March 15th. I finished my last gig at work on the 11th.

No one had started ransacking the grocery stores yet.

Since my son was going to have spring break last week/march first week of April, I decided to just get out of LA to have a general break.

Well, I had about 3 days (12th through 14th where I decided to clean everything up on my boat and get it ready for rain with tarps and bungee cords.

That thursday was the first time I began to see people starting to act weird around town. I noticed people were starting to fill up a little more at the grocery store. I wasn't even going to them but would drive by and see a few people loading shopping carts full of cans and paper stuffs. I had this calm ONLY because I had coincidentally returned from xmas after the new year vacation and saw that I was nearly out of chicken noodle soup and toilet paper.

There was no Corona virus on the map yet January 4th that I had known about. I just went to the store like I do every 4 months to get my usual bar of soap 3 pack, some canned goods that I was low on, even thoughI had a lot of minestroni and vegetable soups, I wanted to get tuna fish, sardines, and chicken noodle.

None of this was of any concern. It was my usual shopping trip for goods on those nights I don't stop at the Japanese market to get some fish filet or premade sushi for an easy sit down, eat, pass out to you tube type of too busy to cook nights or just don't want canned food nights.

So I was lucky. Fate had me prepared to go a couple months if I needed to.

Well, because I was going to go to Wyoming to be with my 12 year old son for his spring break I figured I would leave early since by that point the news was starting to go on about the virus and people were starting to panic buy. On Friday the 13th both Ralphs and Trader Joe's were full. Backed up parking lots.... people rubbing shoulders to get in or out of the markets.

I wouldn't even dare to go into that mess.

I thought to myself... if one person has it in there all those people are screwed.

I went to home depot where there was no one and picked up some bungee cords and an extra tarp to rain proof my boat since we were expecting heavy rain through March.

Once I got the boat sorted I decided to get out of LA on Sunday morning the 15th. I have been in Wyoming since then. Staying at my mothers house. She is an Rn and is a manager. She actually had to over see with police escort the arrival of new masks. Wyoming has very few cases at the moment. None in my hometown of Evanston on the south west corner. That little chip out of the top of Utah is where my Hometown is. Born in 1977 and moved to LA in 1995.

So all is well here. No access to my SGI though. So no new vids until this whole pandemic is either over.. OR becomes endemic and we just start treating it like the common cold or flu once we have some kind of natural defense (for survivors) OR some kind of shot for reducing the severity.

I already have more work coming but since LA is doing voluntary lockdown the CG companies booking me say I can remote work from here. So I am lucky. I have money saved up for a long while already and on top of that am fortunate enough to have work coming still. I am not sure why fate let me off a bit easier than most in this situation but I am not taking that luck for granted.

I will say that as an Atheist or at least agnostic... I had never really put any stock on doomsday prophecy BUT... damn, this last year did look like a bible verse with the mass Fires, Locust Swarms, then Kobe dies in a crash, and now this Virus. 2020 is all brass knuckles to the calm so far.

Best thing is all the non-pollution, fish are spawning like crazy, and maybe this whole manufacturing in China, not that I have a problem with the people or culture, Rather our political/economic leaders signing NAFTA years ago to push manufacturing into slave labor land and doing so fully aware the communist gov in China couldn't care less about human rights abuses.

Americans would most likely want to manufacture here even if it cost a little more as well as would like to see a Made in China label and have it stand for something exotic that was made in China as a symbol of rich Chinese culture vs just being a label that says some billionaire some where is manufacturing in China so they don't have to pay anyone in the USA minimum wages or benefits.

None of the American populace wanted to participate in that cheapening of other people and our own standards.

At least... in a post CV19 world we might see a resurgence of US manufacturing again noting that the long term cost far outweighs any near term wage or benefits payouts. Those Biden/Romney types that sell us out and sleep well at night who people like Ron Paul and Bernie Sanders try to warn us about (the establishment left/right) are going to be forced to become semi decent at least in some portion now in light of this result they have created.

The move to China occurred because the American public does not give a damn about its neighbors.  They not only want to participate, they'll stomp over you for a nickel.
