RE: SGI Freeware????
I deleted /usr/include/Vk.0

I've left web face_apache on, as it was always on

I typed in the command: chkconfig esp off

when I typed in the command: chkconfig httpd off, this is what I got:

and when I rebooted the system, this is what I got:

RE: SGI Freeware????
webface_apache is a security risk, so I suggest turning it off. Everything else, try uninstalling CUPS (Common unix print server) and that's about all I can help with from my limited knowledge.

RE: SGI Freeware????
Unfortunately CUPS is not installed, so it's not the problem here!

I tuned webface_apache off and esp back on and uninstalled xchat and xsane (as they didn't want to work and complained about being run in the root) and this is what I got: (The items circled in red are in question!)

RE: SGI Freeware????
There is no reason to keep ESP on. ESP (electronic support partner) was a service SGI provided for those with support contracts. It has several known exploits and is highly dangerous.

I'm afraid that in absence of CUPS, i'm not sure what's causing LPSTAT to be running, and again, config.tcl I've never encountered. if I had to guess, it's something to do with the TCL programming language. In any case those are minor config errors and probably can be safely ignroed.

Thanks for all the inputs! I really appreciate it.

I thought the same concerning the TCL programming language, but can't link it to this stage of the boot process in my own mind.

The machine appears to be running without error, I just don't like seeing errors on startup, however small they may be!

This is the last time I'll carry out such a batch install of software on one of these machines. (It's a bloody mess!!!)

BTW, I only carried out the install of this software to get the required libraries to install GImageView. I'm still missing two however: fw_libpng.sw.lib and fw_gettext.sw64

RE: SGI Freeware????
I installed fw_libpng as well as fw_gettext:

And I still got these conflicts while attempting to install GImageView!

So I searched the system for the missing files, and alas, they're not present on the system!!! (After the install of the relevant packages!!!)

fw_gettext.sw64 is on CD 2 of the May 2004 Freeware (see my earlier post).

I would recommend downloading the 4 CDs locally and opening all distributions at the same time. This avoids this dependency mess.

What I'm looking for are ISO's of those disks, as I can't download the entire disks from the link that you provided, and I can seem to be able to install any of the files from that location either.

xv is better than Gimageview unless you need a specific feature.
