Eating is definitely one of my favourite past times. I don't know about you, but I love eating! I'm usually already thinking about what I'm going to have for dinner, while I'm still eating lunch!

Share your eating and culinary experiences here!

This is what I had for dinner this evening, after going for a swim at my local gym:

RE: The Food Channel
I still remember Raion sharing a recipe for crispy fried tofu in a food thread at Nekochan. It's the only time I've ever seen a tofu dish and thought, "mmm...that looks good!". But I still haven't actually tried making it myself. I'm not particularly adventurous when it comes to my meals. I generally make the same stuff over and over again. When dinner time comes, I want something I know I'll enjoy. My grandfather was a fairly basic "meat and potatoes" kind of guy, and I'm a lot like him. Although I do enjoy pizza nights and pasta nights, too.

Did you make the meal pictured above yourself?

Admittedly this is not one of my creations, I picked it up on the way back from gym!

There are some examples of my handiwork though:

RE: The Food Channel
Well, it's not nearly as fancy as what Irinikus posted (seriously, homemade sushi?!?) but here are two of my dinners from last weekend. (Both homemade, by me.)

First, meatloaf with mashed potatoes, gravy, and vegetables. I know meatloaf can have a bad reputation sometimes, but there are so many variations that anyone can find a meatloaf they like and another that they hate. Since I made that one, it's just the way I like it.

Second, thick-crust pizza. You can't tell from the photos but my favourite pizza toppings of pepperoni and green peppers are lurking under the cheese. I'm sure there are aficionados out there who will say that thin-crust is the only way to go. But the thicker crust is actually a lot easier to make at home. I don't have a wood-fired pizza oven to justice to a thin-crust variety. So this works for me.

RE: The Food Channel
I haven't been cooking very much over the last year because of my job at the time but now that I have quit it's pretty much a necessity for me to start cooking again. I'm starting to bake things like crazy, but while I wait for the reception on those I have something really tasty that I made today.

This is pandan flavored agar agar, it's similar to Jello but it's much firmer, and it has a bit of a bite to it rather than being creamy and soft. The flavor of pandan is very much like a mixture of vanilla and coconut, maybe with a little bit of grassiness. I considered doing some durian cakes today but I don't want to stink up my house.

Very interesting!!!

What is Agar? You'll find the answer here.

What is Pandan? You'll find the answer here.

I will see if I can source Agar and Pandan locally. This would be a nice one to try! Smile

Pollo Al Mattone ("Brick Chicken") from the grill.

If you butterfly the chicken (cut it along the spine), and weigh it down with a brick to keep it flat, it turns out really juicy while still having a nice crispy skin. Served with potatoes and green beans.
