Softwindows 95 v5 Experiences

RE: Softwindows 95 v5 Experiences
Microsoft Office 97 runs great however when it came to games I found the Sound Blaster emulation was about average with midi synthesis being extremely poor. For example you would have incorrect or simply awful sounding instruments in the game Deadly Rooms of Death.

I tried installing Heretic and it didnt like the win95 (emulated DOS) environment. Im not giving up though, I will still try to install other DOS apps/games and report my findings.

I do have to say that im been somewhat impressed at the overall performance being at least on par or better than my 'old' original 486 win machine.

Also installed Caligari true space 3 with great success.   So far installing dos applications have been a challenge I.e. 3d studio r4 and generic CADD 6.1.  Even when I got the display driver working “ok”, the mouse would not work.  I’m not sure if dos in emulation under win95 in elmulation mode is loosing the ps2 connection under all the layers of emulation.

In the next day or so, I plan on trying AutoCAD r12dos to see if it works.

What impresses me is that I was thinking of building a legacy 486 Windows 3.1 or 95 box, but I’m really liking running the legacy apps on an sgi.   Kind of like getting the best of both worlds.

hey any chance you can tarball Autodesk Animator studio 1.1, Caligari and 3DStudioR4?  I'm sort of interested in playing around with some older dos/win stuff on the sgi, but I don't really have much of the older software (I do have softimage 3.8 for windows)

Sure.. when I can try to upload to the FTP for the first time. I assume I would post it to the “incoming folder.

It would be cool if the FTP site had folder for old windows 95 abondonware programes that work with SoftWindows95.
