OpenGL Performer 3.2+ 32/64-bit IRIX, Linux, Windows

RE: OpenGL Performer 3.2+ 32/64-bit IRIX, Linux, Windows
Hi Rodney,

I had a look at my old archive and found the following windows performer version: "OpenGLPerformer322-1206.exe"

I think that this is Windows Performer Demo Installer.
I know that at some point I had Windows VM with this installed and used to run the old "Town" demo environment.

I not sure if others know better but for IRIX "OpenGL Performer" demo install, I believe that the only difference to full performer install is the provided license.dat file which is for "DEMO" free install.

If you had / generate a license.dat file for full install, then I would expect this would result in it becoming full install.

Unfortunately back in the day, when you could download the Linux and Windows Demo verssion, I only ever downloaded the Windows version as I was "why Linux, when I have IRIX" person...

If you want to try the windows installer, let me know.

RE: OpenGL Performer 3.2+ 32/64-bit IRIX, Linux, Windows
Hi John,

Thanks for looking into this for me - I have managed to get the Windows installer and successfully installed onto WinXP running in VirtualBox…. I was able to install it on Windows11 under WinXP-SP2 compatibility mode but perfly won’t run because FlexLM is returning error -108 not allowed to run on remote terminal server …??

I am now in search of the original source code to Performer to get it into open-source and try modernise it - the API is very good for high-performance graphics and I think it still holds true, today…

I am wondering if anyone may know where the source code to libpr etc ended up?

Thanks again for your help!
Cheers,
Rodney

Hi Rodney,

suspect getting source will be "hard".

But if you are interested in "reverse engineering", it might be worth looking into the work that was done to reverse engineer N64 Super Mario (and Zelda).

This used binary decompilation (of MIPS code) and generated source code: https://github.com/n64decomp/sm64

I gather it took a lot of effort from many people and I even managed to get result running in Linux VM, but it did not look any better than HDMI modified N64...

Starting point for this would be IRIX MIPS version of OpenGL Performer.

If you don't mind - can you post the windows installer?  I sort of never payed attention to this back then, but I would like to play with this now Smile

I'm not here to be a buzz kill but we don't allow sharing software like this in the open so take it to PMs. Especially Windows software

RE: OpenGL Performer 3.2+ 32/64-bit IRIX, Linux, Windows
Hi Rodney et al,

can you do what you need with Inventor rather than Performer ?

I ask as one of motivation of Performer was to address performance issues with Inventory.

But nowaday's performance of OpenGL acceleration is way beyond what was available back then, so performance is unlikely to be issue.

Open Inventor was also properly Open Source'd and still has active code base.

Cheers from Oz,

RE: OpenGL Performer 3.2+ 32/64-bit IRIX, Linux, Windows
The windows release is on archive.org

look for: twilight-dvd093 on google or archive.org
In the list says "SGI OpenGL Performer v3.2 => DVD2" (folder 0047 inside ISO)
Includes a cracked license file to enjoy.

No need to ask favor to HPE or Gollum for it.

Works fine under windows 2000k when the program ask for the license choose to browse and select the file.
