The shielding is now in, next comes the internal ribbing and attachment members.

Nice, I'd love to try lighting that model. Smile

Great work so far. Biggrin

Here's a rendering of the scene in Mental Ray with the "final gather" rendering option (giving rise to some ambient occlusion):

What I may do from here, is build up an entire Indy model, with all of the internal circuitry and modules in place. (In order to achieve this, I'm going to have to completely disassemble my Indy to take proper measurements of the various components and take proper pictures to be used for bump mapping the various components in the system.)

I ran this experiment, which took just over an hour to render on my Tezro, to see how bump mapping would work as far as the circuit boards are concerned, I bump mapped it as much as I could without it becoming distorted and it still looks rather flat, so I'll have to build the individual boards up and apply bump mapping to them, if I want them to look realistic! (this is going to take a considerable amount of work to accomplish, but I do have an idea as to how I'm going to do it.)

In this test, I used a picture that I took of the top board of the XZ graphics system in my indy.

Looks nice! So you are going to make a complete Indy model?

And you also rendered my favourite mousepad... :-)

I am no longer posting from the moose, SGI O2 with R10k/250, 1GB RAM,  IRIX 6.5.27, unfortunately.

I think it would be a really cool thing to do.

I plan on maybe modelling the IRIS Indigo as well, once I'm finished with the indy, as it's also rather easy to disassemble.
