If you've installed neko_quake, look in the nekoware bin folder for the following file: "darkpalces-sdl", and copy it into the quake folder. This is the correct executable for the game and will allow you to run the game at 1920x1080 in GL-mode.

Yes neko_quake - I followed your instructions exactly but the same result. I have a feeling that I might be missing SDL dependencies? I know many programs I try to install cry and ask me to install lots of SDL programs.

Edit: vfo thread: https://forums.irix.cc/thread-1152.html

Thanks callahan, I downloaded the latest vfs and sdb. You state where to put the vfs but there is no info about what to do with an sdb. When putting the vfs inside the correct folder (I had to create vof/2RSS as they weren't there) display properties does not add the resolution. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Okay here is the output:

Is there a package I can download with all this? Thanks

RE: Ready to rock! Loving the Octane!
Just be aware that you can't output 1920x1080_60 through a 13W3, however you can output 1920x1200_60!

If your screen doesn't support 1920x1200 and you set it in setmon, you will have to go in via serial to reset the graphics settings, so be careful!

confirm you installed it properly? It's funny that it didn't call for libSDL when you did the install?

You're going to need to install "neko_libSDL-1.2.so.1.1" it's available in nekoware.

This video that I made, showing the installation of neko_xfe, should give you some idea or guidance as to how to go about installing nekoware: (It's a rather tedious process!)

I'm getting there lol! Maybe one more hurdle? I load the game, the screen goes blank but stays in 1920x1200, the game is playing in the background but no display. I bring down the quake console from memory and type /quit. My desktop comes back, and this is the terminal output:

Any ideas? It seems it cannot find a 640x480 output in opengl or something...

RE: Ready to rock! Loving the Octane!
Try typing in ./darkplaces-sdl -width 1280 -height 1024

If it still doesn't work, try installing neko_quake3, as this should require you to install the correct dependencies when you install it.

What screen res are you running?

Hmm, does Quake require double buffering? If it does then the 1920x1200 format won't work as it's beyond the capabilities of the MXI/MXE at that resolution - not enough framebuffer memory.

I thought you could fix it via the command monitor, loading irix without gfx, and then using setmon. The machine will boot to 1024x768 (I think? Or 1280x1024 maybe) and only switches to the higher resolution when graphics start. I've never had to do this, so not sure what the exact command sequence is.

It would be really nice if someone could shed some light as to what the command sequence in the command monitor is. (I'm personally not aware that you can fix this problem in the command monitor before IRIX loads)

I generally have my machines linked to my Mac via serial, when they're in use, so I usually go in via serial to fix this problem. (The only problem is that not everyone has a serial cable readily available.)

RE: Ready to rock! Loving the Octane!
Update: Guys I managed to get the bog-standard version of Quake 2 to run - I'm happy with that! I just wanted to make sure the graphics card was working Smile I'll leave the other Quakes on the 'back burner' for now and just go ahead with other apps I want installed.

So far I'm rocking 1920x1200 and it's awesome, with my custom background as well thanks to all the help.

RE: Ready to rock! Loving the Octane!
Option 5 in command monitor
type 'single' for single user mode
enter your root password if you have one

type the following to set a 1280x1024 @ 60Hz mode after reboot

/usr/gfx/setmon -x 1280x1024_60

followed by

reboot
