NFS between IRIX and Windows

NFS between IRIX and Windows
I've been experiencing a number of issues with Sharity recently (which allows mounting of SMB1 shares under IRIX), plus SMB1 is considered quite an insecure and outdated protocol lately.

After lots of trials, tribulations and hair-pulling, I finally have working NFS set up between my two SGIs and my Windows PC (currently running Windows 7 x64). This involved trying numerous NFS servers for Windows that IRIX refused to acknowledge (no matter how much I meddled with the settings), however I've eventually found one that seems to work. It's a commercial program, but the demo appears to be time-unlimited, the only limitation I can see so far is that I'm limited to two user connections (which isn't an issue for me).

The tool I've got working is XLink NFS Server, it can be downloaded from here. After installing it and running the GUI, it was a simple case of setting up an export or two, then going to "Mapping" to map Windows usernames to IRIX UIDs (or just use the "universal" option). After doing this and applying the settings, IRIX promptly picked up the two paths I'd exported and allowed me to permanently mount them.

Thought I'd post this here in case anyone finds it useful. I currently have a few user profile folders symlinked to a share on my PC (I like synced settings for programs such as XMMS), shared documents & notes etc. and it works nicely.

RE: NFS between IRIX and Windows
Thanks!
I have also had problems exchanging files between IRIX and Windows recently.
Most NFS servers for Windows are incompatible.
However I have found haneWin NFS Server which works wonderfully!
https://www.hanewin.net/nfs-e.htm
It is shareware but if somebody wants any help with setup, PM me Smile

RE: NFS between IRIX and Windows
Interestingly, I've tried twice to get Hanewin to work with IRIX, both times without any success. Didn't matter how I tried to configure Hanewin, IRIX just refused to see any NFS exports. If you can document the configuration you used here, it may be useful for others!

RE: NFS between IRIX and Windows
Of course I can!
I do not remember the defaults for haneWin, so I attached my current configuration below.
I use haneWin 1.2.35 registered on Windows 7 64bit.
I am using IRIX 6.5.30 on tezro on the client side and can mount as read-only and read/write.
I suspect a problem with your firewall (Windows or 3rd party). Can you temporarily disable it?

RE: NFS between IRIX and Windows
Good stuff, hopefully it'll be useful for some people. For me, definitely not a firewall issue. One of the first things I tried was to disable that Smile
