A-Away
I've put all my SGI stuff in storage, I'll only pop onto the forum infrequently, my flickr pics will stay up for the images in my posts.

I'm no longer on the  Discord # so any queries on fan mods etc please send a pm.

Happy computing!

I'm sure that you have your own good reasons to put your SGI hobby on hold.

I for one hope to see you back one day! Smile

@ Irinikus - Just life in general. Our lounge is getting too cluttered and it's not fair on the family. Don't have a spare room for my stuff so it's got to go to storage (the loft, all wrapped up snug)

Also, the machines (even the O2) are hellishly noisy, we live in the countryside with not much around us so it's very quiet around. A scsi disk spinning really is an intrusion when people are reading.

Sure I'll get them out again, some time in the future.

RE: A-Away
Nothing wrong with taking the odd break. I was active with my SGI machines from 2002 until about 2007, then went through a dry spell whilst my machines went up in the loft and I developed other interests.

Then after moving house a good few years back and clearing out the loft, I was moving my little O2 and the fond memories came flooding back. Of course, scrapping servers in my new job and salvaging a nice pile of very quiet and large SCSI drives also helped a lot, as does having my own man-cave in the new house and having the money at last to buy a couple of my most coveted machines.

Still, I've been there when the magic wore off a bit, it will be back at some point I'm sure. Have fun in the meantime!

RE: A-Away
Speaking of noise, Trippynet, your sig mentions quiet fans for your Indigo2. Have you posted details about that somewhere?

Best wishes, JT! 8)

RE: A-Away
I posted quite a detailed thread back on Nekochan several years ago regarding it. I wouldn't say the Indigo2 is quiet now (definitely not compared to my almost-silent O2), but the noise is now very bearable.

A couple of people have managed reasonable archives of Nekochan, so it should be floating around somewhere...
