your beloved SGI's place in your living space

RE: your beloved SGI's place in your living space
This thread makes me tear up. So beautiful. Jan Jaap, you are my hero. Vladio, your Enron gear made me laugh out loud, beautiful Onyx 2!

My gear has been in storage for 10 years, various life circumstances in four different countries. But I really need to get a few machines out and over the 1500km to Vancouver and have IRIX in my life again.

Or forget about retiring and by a Tezro for sale locally. (I can't! I REALLY can't!)

Thanks, Dylanear! You gotta get your stuff back up and running!

Very Nice! I still have my old PowerMac as well as my commodore 64 setup. I also have a complete TI 99/4A with the expansion box and all the options.... just not enough space.

Nice setup you have!

You guys are going to cringe I think.

Behold my SGI boxes untouched in the back of my garage for 10+ years.

2 Indigos: One's an Elan, the other I'm not sure, and that beautiful sony overscan monitor for the video output.

Then there's my PowerIndigo2, with Indigo2Video (sequel to Galileo video).

and my accesories box with my trackball and my video breakout board and dials-and-buttons box!

I also have the original CRT monitors (1 19" granite, and 2 smaller ones), plus keyboards, etc...

I used to drag that PowerIndigo2 (and it's monitor!) around to raves in the SF Bay Area in the early Nineties to do the graphics for them. Those hard drives still contain all my rave graphics code (if they still spin up).

Not sure if I will ever get them up and running again, but I just can't part with them.

Barn find! Biggrin

Seriously though, as long as you don't have a rodent or moisture problem in your garage they should be relatively safe. NVRAM batteries will be dead but those can be replaced (Indigo) or ignored (Indigo2). Disks from that era can suffer from striction but gently tapping them sideways on a solid surface can release them and make them spin again.

I've pulled plenty of gear from garages over the years and it never gave me any problems I couldn't fix.
