VPro diagnostics
Are there any VPro (Octane) diagnostics I can run to check for Vram issues, within Irix? IDE doesn't check Vpro...or so it states.

I have no idea where to find the suggested 'odydiags'.

RE: VPro diagnostics
I did a .22 base install with the '98 demos and I cannot replicate the visual corruption issues I see in my powerflip demos on my .30 install. I'm not convinced it's hardware related...Going to try and reinstall the demos first then the Vpro drivers.

I'd still like to find the VPro 'odydiags' tools though...

Card is fine, so it would seem. I reinstalled the demos and the issue went away.

But now my Software Manager is broken....I suspect some data corruption on the drive... :(

Do you see anything in /usr/diags/bin?

This would be from the The Customer Diagnostics 1.0 CD, SGI part number 812-1122-001, I think (but am not sure) it only shipped with the Fuel.

yeah that happens, feel free to take a look at https://forums.irix.cc/thread-790-post-5666.html

btw have you changed your path's lately?  I just recalled path order might matter, it def breaks other system tools.  I vaguely recall that breaking swmgr for someone long ago...

I suspect it's path related, I'm going to clear out my .cshrc and slowly add paths back in to see what breaks it...

RE: VPro diagnostics
Well I've sorted my paths, however I still have display corruption, but only on my own profile. The root account behaves fine.

Does buttonfly / powerflip save any settings in the user directory? I may test with a new account...if it works fine there then it's probably my account. :/

@ Vishnu - Nothing that will test the VPro cards in there...

RE: VPro diagnostics
Actually, the V8 seems to have memory issues. As soon as I stick the card into 16bpp it exhibits the issue. Anything below on a reduced frame buffer is OK.

An I found out a V6 will happily do 1920x1200_60 at 8bpp Smile

RE: VPro diagnostics
If anybody has a v8 and can run multiple textured powerflip instances on 16bpp could they report any graphical glitches. It sort of looks like the issues the v6/v8 cards exhibit when you get close to the pixel bug range. No other opengl apps or games (quake2 or 3) show signs of this. They may just be using memory not in the borked zone?!

Yep, the errors occur in many, many areas using openGL now...I thinks it's on the way out. *snif*

RE: VPro diagnostics
Found this on the old Nekochan Wiki entry I saved...Hmmm...

Code:
SGI's first series of Vpro graphics boards for the Octane2 unfortunately comes with a hardware bug. This causes flickering and artifacts when there is more than one OpenGL rendering context on the screen. To avoid this, one possibility is to "underclock" the RAMDAC

Checked as the case. No artifacts at 1280x720_60 @16bpp, low pixel clock. Pixel clock values higher yield artifacts, the same on the other end of the pixel bug range. Obviously just a V6/V8 thing.

Which apps need 16bpp? Disadvantages of running 8bpp?
