SOLVED...

Finally figured it out, Maya Batch Rendering will not work unless you set up your workstation with a fully qualified host name entry.. It is now working like a charm.

so your saying in your /etc/hosts file you have entries like:

198.168.1.10     Indigo2     Indigo2.sgi.com 

or did you have to set the hostname using the hostname command to Indigo2.sgi.com (or something like that)

Yes, ended up creating it as: IRIS.home.localhost

Can't believe that I didn't figure it out before.
