Maya 6.5 Unlimited Rendering Issue - indigofan - 07-07-2020
Any one else had issues with Maya not rendering scenes? Uninstalled and reinstalled, but it craps out when trying to do a Batch Render. It will render the current frame but nothing else..
Just trying to find out if there is something that I need to tweak without having to basically do a fresh IRIX install to fix the issue.

I'm currently doing a batch render this minute, and it works fine! (It's already been rendering for 5 hours straight and probably has to go for another 2 to 3 hours more to go!)
I've found that you can't render to a video format with the MentalRay renderer, as you don't have the option to render to a .MPEG .AVI, or the like in the general settings when using this renderer, so I'm using the Maya Software renderer!
What type of system are you using?

What output file type are you attempting to render to?

Rendering a straight .MB file to Maya iff numbered format.. Fuel, 6.5.27
Have tried video formats as well.
PowerAnimator works fine, all versions. Just not Maya.

It's a known issue, must of been something else that got installed that is messing with Maya.

Nothing specific to IRIX, but the same symptoms, I can't get it to work or figure out which config is messed.

So from doing a few fresh installs, here's what I've come to surmise...
Something breaks Maya's ability to do a batch render... this is proven, it still works from the command line, but not the GUI.
Most likely suspects are:
StudioPaint 9.5
Nekoware
Freeware 2.0
Don't have enough time to keep trying a fresh install, but once it happens, uninstalling all Alias Software and reinstalling does not address the issue. Even with rebooting.
Clearing out Maya preferences and any other directories and re-installing does not fix the issue.
I did a fresh install with just Maya and it works fine. Once other dists get loaded, something either breaks the link to the command, it just goes sideways. Would like to hear from others if Batch Render from the GUI works with everything and the kitchen sink loaded.. Have no issues what so ever with any other Alias | Wavefront product.
Guess I'm going to become a command line wizard for rendering.

I think that I solved this...
Since Composer was mainly built as a companion tool to PowerAnimator, there is something that messes with the shared libraries for Maya.. I have tried installs independently with Composer 4.0.3 and Composer 5.5, both break Maya batch rendering. Rendering still works, just need to become a command line savant. Both versions also work well with PA 8 and up.
Just curious to see if anyone else has Composer and Maya working with batch rendering working? Or does my Fuel with 6.5.30 have gremlins...

SOLVED...
Finally figured it out, Maya Batch Rendering will not work unless you set up your workstation with a fully qualified host name entry.. It is now working like a charm.
