Octane completely dead - PSU repair?
My Octane :Octane: does not start any more. There is no reaction when trying to turn it on; no sound, no leds, no fan. So I'm thinking it's a PSU problem.

Is this a known problem that has a fix?

Are there any capacitors I should try to replace first in the PSU, or should I try to change all of them to see if it will fix anything?

The PSU is a mess of caps, but definitely, you have plenty to replace in there.

RE: Octane completely dead - PSU repair?
Thanks for your quick reply!
I was hoping to not be messing too much around with the PSU, because of the size and how expensive the equipment is I guess it has - as you say - a lot of caps (and high voltage...) in there. I guess I need to open and have a look then...

I've read about some people replacing their PSUs because they have had problems with them (in threads on nekochan, I guess), but unless you fix the thing that commonly breaks in these I'm guessing it will happen sooner or later with the replacement PSU too. Are there any confirmed faults I should be looking for ?

I took apart one of my dead Octane PSU's before with the idea of fixing it - man I just wasn't prepared for what was in there - I wish you better luck than I had

I'm not aware of any common failures but look for obvious things like bulged or leaking capacitors. There is probably a small standby power supply that is always on. I'd start and and see if that is working. Then checking things like the main bridge rectifier and mosfets for shorts. I once fixed a Fuel power supply but it didn't last long. That thing was way too crowded and over complicated.

Thumbs Up  RE: Octane completely dead - PSU repair?
A late update, but I've been waiting for this moment for a long time Biggrin

I finally managed to get hold of a working CHEROKEE SP360 747 W (SGI 060-0035-002) PSU someone locally parted out, and my Octane came to life again!
Ran the diagnostic tests and all completed fine.
I guess I have to put it on the list of things I need to recap, to extend the lifetime (hopefully before it stops working, like the original PSU)  Joy

Thanks for your replies everyone!
