New Archive Section
Greetings everyone,

Yeah yeah, I know IRIXOne, Vault, and a bunch of other promised stuff isn't quite ready. I got something exciting though.

If you go to https://archive.irix.cc You will see a new archive section.

It is:

http://archive.irix.cc/apocrypha/

SGI Apocrypha is a little side project of mine. Nekonomicon is all Mr. Elf's, but The Lost Chapters is my replacement for trying to archive pages on the wiki.

Let me explain how this works:

i've thrown together some HTML and CSS templates that make it easy to manually scrape, edit and post content.

The Networking page I archived from Majix took about 35 minutes, including editing, formatting, checking and cleaning it up. It's supported by a dirty set of perl scripts I developed. Currently the backend portion is a mess, but long and short of it:

The Lost Chapters are single page basic HTML from other sites that have been suggested to me to archive. Unlike Archive, it's only singular pages of data that may actually prove useful, and much of the content may be old or redundant, but for rehosting purposes, it works.

It's also being used to test my navbar system (that's the iframe setup you see. One reason I have this is to reduce the need to completely redo navigation and so people can escape broken links easily. While the Apocrypha monniker is isolated to this, we do have plans to take the same idea and move it into the regular archive, with obvious style changes.

I'm the system admin of this site. Private security technician, licensed locksmith, hack of a c developer and vintage computer enthusiast.

Technical problems should be sent my way.
