O2 workstation: Can not turn on switch
Hi, everybody
I have a problem with my O2 Workstation. I turned on my system, pressed "ESC" (to maintanance), after that, choose: 5 to PROM screen. In PROM screen, I inputed:
off    <enter>
and then, the O2 turn off.
But now, I can not turn on with switch (on/off), I have to set jumper (PWR UP). Please help me to fix this problem.
Thank you.

Your power supply is dead. They go pretty regularly. Time to get it recapped.

Thank you, Raion.
After I set "PWR UP" jumper, I can use the O2, but the machine work as soon as I plug in the power cord. The PSU is OK. Please help me to fix.

RE: O2 workstation: Can not turn on switch
I've been doing a lot of work with my various o2's recently, and I've come across this failure-to-power-up a bunch of times already. Here are some steps I took:

very important: step 0: NEVER PULL THE MOTHERBOARD WHILE THE POWER CORD IS PLUGGED IN
step 0a. when you pull out the power cord, hit the power button to discharge the CAPS in the PSU, only then move on to the below:
1. Reseat the PSU - do this a few times
1a. take out all components and blow off the dust (canned air is ok, air compressor is better I guess, just don't go too crazy)
2. set the PWR jumper, power on, unset the PWR jumper, power on. you can leave the PCI slot out, its not needed in there. Do this a few times. I've had o2's that wont power on when you set the PWR jumper, but will once you take it off.
3. reseat the CPU. do this a few times, you might have to do step 2 and 3 a few times.

I've had o2 motherboards that I was sure were dead (I have about 7 o2's right now so I've been swapping parts left and right), some started working after 15 tries...

also, make sure your grounded/discharged from static buildup when handling these boards. at the very least touch the metal frame for a good 2 seconds, then pull the boards and start handling them

So it kicks on as soon as you plug it in? Sorry I don't know the answer for that but it could be a hardware problem somewhere else.

I've seen o2's that have the PWR jumper set and as soon as the power cable is plugged in, its turns on but doesn't do much else.  I've had to power down the o2, remove the PWR jumper, and then plug it in, that's when it started working correctly.  I hope that is OP's case

The pci riser can be removed, but you need it if any programmes require the hardware address of the machine. The riser contains a little Dallas chip, software with licenses linked to this will require the pci riser to be installed in order to run

Regarding the psu, check the frontplane power on micro switch, they get dirty and can also fail. Also check the contacts between the psu and frontplane.

No longer active. Please do not contact me.

one more thing to add, the plastics are brittle, be careful handling the o2. I don't like using too much strength on the swivel knob to pull out the mainboard, I've had one break on me - I like to screw in the vga cable and use more of my power to yank on that to pull out the MB, an I push in the MB with my fingers evenly spaced on the MB. If you mainly use the plastic swivel to pull out/push in the MB, its will break on you sooner or later

yeah, I'm sort of talking about getting the darn thing to power up first Smile
