for convenience, if you’ve got the parts, I would wire a passthru to a pci slot serial port header from that internal port on the system board.
Yes, I knew that is a possibility, but NO. I'm working with damaged Fuel mainboards at the moment and cannot find the PROM console connection at all, or I'm given like 8 lines and then nothing (no prompt) using control & t/d.
Since I can't find it I can do the full go cac reinit.
Yes, I tried all 3 serial ports! PROM output never shows up. I bought a cheap L2 hoping it auto-redirects BOTH L1 and PROM to itself automatically. Because I have graphical PROM appearing on one board...but no serial PROM. Debug 0x10d just haults the boot process with no Graphical PROM coming up and no serial output present which basically traps the system. Luckily I'm using the resettable L1 RTC so I can just pull the battery to reset the NVRAM, otherwise I'd be trapped.
Both systems have new batteries, both fully reinited their NVRAM, didn't help...no PROM output. Since I cannot rule out damaged serial chip drivers or the like, secret USB everything for logging was going to be my answer.
I just got the L2 fully networked, I have not actually used it on a system yet. I'll do that before I disassemble my current failure to move on to firmware swapping on the next problem mainboard..where the L2 will be vital to hopefully find the PROM, if it's there!
To summarize, no PROM serial output appears on internal or external Serial port on both mainboards. No response from CPU, when I do a shortcut to swap consoles. L1 consistently appears on internal header on both boards all the time.
Obviously someone or something messed with it and system defaults don't fix it. We've seen this before where people have found their consoles magically on other ports. I can't tell if the same thing is happening to me. Even on my personal fuel, I didn't find the PROM serial output until I did a full system manual reinit, which means even default initialization doesn't forcibly move the PROM console output setting to internal header.
As previously discussed the PROM out can move around. Only a full reinit go cac seems to place it back on internal header...and I cannot yet do that!
